Chapter 689 Familiar Plot
Shirley and Mary both let out a sigh of relief when they heard the news.
At least he wasn't some shady character.
The incident was quickly forgotten, and once Mary recovered, she went back to work.
She only had one project with Matthew at the moment, so she visited the construction site daily to check on the progress and make any necessary adjustments on the spot.
One day, as she was leaving the site, she saw a man sitting on a bench by the roadside. As she approached, the man suddenly slid off the bench and fainted right in front of her.
Startled, Mary instinctively took a step back and looked around.
The area was pretty deserted, with hardly any people or cars in sight.
What was this guy doing here?
Why did he faint?
Not daring to approach him, she immediately called for an ambulance. When it arrived, she was asked to accompany him to the hospital because of the medical expenses..
Reluctantly, Mary sat beside the man, who looked vaguely familiar, as they rode to the hospital.
Once there, the doctors examined him and found that he had fainted due to low blood sugar.
When Mary heard this, she suddenly remembered that someone had fainted at her doorstep once before for the very same reason!
Looking at the man's face again, she found him increasingly familiar.
Gradually, his face overlapped with the man from that day!
Mary's brow furrowed, and she looked at him with growing suspicion.
After a short while, the man slowly regained consciousness.
Seeing this, Mary said, "You're in the hospital now. These are the payment receipts. Are you going to pay me in cash or transfer the money?"
The man looked at her, bewildered, his eyes filled with confusion, which made Mary's heart skip a beat.
The man was quite handsome, with deep-set eyes, a high nose bridge, and bangs that naturally fell over part of his eyebrows. He wore a black T-shirt and pants, and the confusion in his eyes was unmistakable.
Mary waved her hand in front of his face.
"Who are you?" The man spoke, his voice hoarse, filled with fear of the unfamiliar surroundings.
Mary was speechless.
She looked at him expressionlessly. "Amnesia?"
The man still looked bewildered. "Who am I?"
Great.
He really had amnesia.
Mary promptly called the police.
When the police arrived, they verified the man's identity and confirmed that he had no connection to Mary, allowing her to leave.
Mary didn't want any trouble, so she left without asking for the medical fees.
"Do you remember your name?" she heard the police ask the man as she walked out of the room.
She paused for a moment.
What if she had called the police back then?
Would everything be different now?
A bitter smile flashed across Mary's face as she quickly left the hospital, went home to cook, and then brought the food to Matthew's hospital room.
He was still busy.
He was even busier than before, and Mary didn't want to disturb him. She waited until he finished signing one document, only for another to be placed in front of him.
Matthew frowned, carefully reading the document, and his face darkened when he realized it was a divorce agreement. He turned to see Mary standing nearby, looking at him innocently.
He couldn't help but laugh in exasperation.
Was she hoping he'd be so busy that he'd sign it without noticing?
If that happened, they would no longer be connected.
