Chapter 285 It's His Fault

Laura almost dropped her phone in shock.

Trying to calm down, she looked at Matthew and said, "Your phone was ringing. I just wanted to give it to you."

Matthew took the phone, his face turning colder when he saw the caller ID.

"Don't let this happen again."

Laura, feeling awkward, replied, "You misunderstood. I wasn't trying to answer your phone."

Matthew ignored her and walked out, answering the call with a curt, "Hello?"

There was no response from Mary, just the sound of something heavy being dragged and faint voices urging, "Hurry up, make sure Mr. James enjoys himself."

Matthew's expression darkened. He quickly sent the number to Maria, telling her to trace it fast.

Maria got to work immediately.

Five minutes earlier at the orphanage, Mary had barely touched her food. She looked at David and asked, "Are you really staying here?"

David nodded, "Yeah, I grew up here. You can visit whenever you want."

Mary nodded. "I will."

She stood up, saying, "It's getting late, I need to head to the station..."

But she suddenly felt dizzy, gripping the table for support.

Realizing something was wrong, she looked at the food, then at David. "You..."

David, confused, asked, "Mary, what's wrong?"

Just then, the door opened, and Barbara walked in with some men. She said to David, "Well done."

David, shocked, asked, "Ms. Inome, what's happening? What's wrong with Mary?"

Barbara smirked, "You drugged her. Don't pretend. She won't trust you now."

She turned to the men, "This is Mary, the one Mr. James wants. Take her quickly."

The men moved towards Mary.

Mary flipped the table and grabbed a chair, smashing it at them, her voice hoarse with anger. "David, you set me up!"

David, panicking, said, "I didn't, Mary, believe me. Don't touch her!"

He tried to stop the men but felt dizzy and collapsed.

Barbara sneered, "David, just wait here. Your problem will be solved soon. Make Mr. James happy, and you can have whatever you want."

David realized in disbelief that he had been fooled after trusting Barbara and bringing Mary here.

Now, he was powerless to help her.

The drug took effect quickly. Mary, after one swing, felt her strength drain and staggered.

Barbara rushed forward and slammed Mary against the wall.
