Chapter 670 About to Go to Trial
"He said you liked that face. I can't believe it. He'll do anything to get what he wants."
Shirley sat next to Mary, feeling profoundly uneasy as she recalled Matthew's words.
Mary was silent for a moment, deep in thought.
She really thought Matthew had lost it.
Did he realize she had a weakness for his face and said that on purpose?
As Mary pondered over Shirley's words, everything started to make sense.
His behavior these past few days hadn't changed much from before.
When she first met Matthew, he seemed confused and unfamiliar with everything.
But he inexplicably trusted her. If she told him to read, he would read.
He was a quick learner, picking up sign language and writing very fast.
He would always sit quietly on the living room sofa with a book.
Mary suddenly closed her eyes, forcing herself not to think about it.
That was all in the past.
The current Matthew wouldn't lose his memory again.
In the following days, the news of the Montagu Group successfully merging with the DK Group dominated the headlines. The Montagu Group's territory expanded once more, solidifying its position as the leading company in Lindwood City.
Matthew's mood wasn't great.
Everyone could feel it because he always appeared with a cold expression.
Mary attributed it to company matters.
Even if he said he didn't care, it was still his hard work. Watching the DK Group get taken away, who could really stay calm?
But she didn't dwell on it.
Whether he was heartbroken or upset, it had nothing to do with her.
After nearly two months of physical therapy, she was almost fully recovered, and tomorrow was the court date.
The lawyers Robert and Joey introduced came to see Mary that day to discuss the court proceedings.
As the plaintiff, Mary had already submitted evidence proving the marriage was irreparable and needed to be dissolved.
After the discussion, they went out for dinner. By the time Mary returned to Maple Grove Manor, it was already dark.
Shirley wasn't home.
Mary checked her phone and saw a message from Shirley: [I will be back late tonight.]
Mary: [Have fun.]
Then she put her phone away and headed to the bedroom.
Entering the bathroom, she undressed and started to shower.
With only three days until the court date, she felt both excited and nervous.
She was about to gain her freedom!
She even started humming a tune.
But suddenly, the bathroom door opened, startling her. She quickly grabbed a towel.
"Matthew, what are you doing?"
She hastily wrapped herself up, watching as Matthew, with a stern face, approached.
As he got closer, the strong smell of alcohol hit her. His eyes were dark and deep, like a well she could easily fall into if she wasn't careful.
Matthew stepped closer, and Mary sensed danger, backing away and looking for something to use.
But there was nothing.
Finally, she was cornered against the wall.
Matthew's tall figure loomed over her, her small frame now filled with anger in her eyes.
"What do you want?"
She tried to keep her voice calm, not wanting to provoke him.
Right now, he looked very dangerous!
