Matthew's expression froze, and he looked at her. "You're really not renewing the contract?"
Mary replied, "Nope, don't need the money anymore."
Matthew was speechless.
For a moment, he didn't know what to say.
If money couldn't persuade her, what could keep her?
His health was gradually improving, and the court case was inevitable. He could choose to stay out of sight, but that wasn't a real solution.
He wanted their relationship to get better, not just maintain this fragile peace.
Their relationship was incredibly fragile, as if a slight touch would shatter it.
Mary packed up the lunchbox and left without even glancing at him.
Matthew leaned back against the headboard, tilting his head slightly and closing his eyes. His Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed, exuding a heavy sense of frustration.
Just then, his phone rang. He answered it.
Michael said, "Mr. Montagu, there's no sign of the person Mrs. Montagu mentioned at the entrance of Maple Grove Manor. I had people search the area, but we didn't find anyone suspicious. Could Mrs. Montagu have been mistaken?"
Matthew replied coldly, "Check the surveillance footage. Make sure you find this person."
Michael responded, "Get it."
Mary reached the hospital lobby and saw Jessica approaching. She walked right past her.
"Mary."
Jessica's voice called out.
Mary paused and looked at her, puzzled. "Ms. Johnson, what's wrong?"
Jessica glared at her, displeased. "Feeling pretty smug, aren't you?"
Mary frowned slightly. "What would I be smug about?"
"Stop pretending!" Jessica sneered. "You keep saying you want a divorce, but it's Matthew who won't agree. This is all part of your plan, right? You knew all along that Matthew would become the CEO of the Montagu Group, so you played hard to get. You're so devious!"
Mary was baffled by her words but caught onto one key point. "You said Matthew became the CEO of the Montagu Group?"
"Stop acting! Do you think it's funny to mess with me?" Jessica's face twisted in anger.
To Jessica, Mary's expression seemed like she was mocking her.
Mary, however, lowered her gaze, deep in thought.
Wasn't Matthew removed from his position as CEO of the DK Group?
How did he suddenly become the CEO of the Montagu Group?
She pulled out her phone and searched for the relevant news. Sure enough, the Montagu Group had updated their executive list.
Matthew was now the acting CEO of the Montagu Group.
What was going on?
He appeared to be under heavy pressure, but secretly he had taken over the Montagu Group!
Matthew was so cunning!
No wonder he had been so busy lately.
And before, he had blamed her for everything, staying at her place for so long!
Mary clenched her phone tightly.
"What kind of expression is that?" Jessica looked at her, dissatisfied.
Mary snapped out of her thoughts. "Thanks for the info."
With that, she turned and left.
As she got into her car, her phone rang. Seeing it was Matthew calling, she ignored it and blocked his number.
What use was Matthew to her now?
In the hospital room.
Seeing the call disconnected, Matthew dialed again, only to find he had been blocked!
What was going on?
Not only did she stop cooking for him, but she also blocked him.
Matthew's brows furrowed deeply, and just then, there was a knock on the door.
