Chapter 240 Break Your Leg
Mary followed David out of the alley, both super cautious. Once they were sure no one was tailing them, they hopped into a taxi.
Mary checked her phone for train tickets and saw some available for tomorrow morning, so she bought one right away. She planned to head to the station tonight and tough it out there.
Back at the hotel, as they got out of the car, David said, "You go up. I'm leaving now."
Mary smiled slightly. "Thanks."
David shrugged. "No biggie. We're friends, right?"
Mary nodded. "Of course."
David smiled and waved.
Mary turned to leave, but then heard chaotic footsteps and a dull thud behind her.
Her heart sank as she saw Peter leading a dozen men. He had just hit David on the head with a stick, and David fell, clutching his head in pain.
"Run, why aren't you running?" Peter kicked David and then looked at Mary. "Come here, apologize, and come with me now, and I'll let him go. Otherwise, I'll break his leg!" He waved the stick menacingly.
David, pale, looked at Mary. "Go, don't worry about me..."
Peter sneered. "Tough guy, huh? I'll break your leg and see how tough you are!" He stepped on David and raised the stick to strike.
"Wait!" Mary shouted. Peter was after her, and David was caught in the middle. She took a deep breath. "I'll go with you. Let him go."
"No way!" David's eyes turned red. Seizing the moment, he kicked Peter's leg and grabbed the stick.
"Get him!" Peter, furious, and his men pounced on David. Despite having the stick, David couldn't fend off so many and was soon beaten down.
"Stop it, stop it!" Mary rushed forward to intervene, but a man swung at her. She paled in fright.
Just as the punch was about to land, someone intercepted it. With a twist, the man's hand cracked, and he was kicked away. Everyone turned, stunned.
Matthew took off his suit jacket, threw it over Mary's head, rolled up his sleeves, and glared coldly. "Come on."
Peter, already furious, cursed. "You bitch, so many men around you. I'll beat them all and see who dares protect you then!" He charged at Matthew with the stick, and the others followed.
The sound of heavy objects hitting the ground, mixed with screams, echoed in the silent night.
Mary took the jacket off her head and widened her eyes in shock at the scene before her.
