Chapter 140 Is She Crazy?

What the hell was Mary thinking?

She actually wondered if Matthew cared about her. Did he have feelings for her?

Was she losing it?

Matthew would do anything for Laura!

He showed up today to help her because he didn't want her to disappear, leaving Laura unprotected. After all, there's hardly anyone as naive as her.

Mary took a deep breath and pulled her hand back.

By now, they had reached the estate's entrance. Matthew turned to her, his expression unreadable.

Mary said calmly, "Thanks for today." She turned to leave. But Matthew grabbed her wrist, his eyebrows furrowed. "That's it?"

Mary smiled slightly. "What else?"

Matthew's lips pressed into a thin line. Holding her wrist tightly, he pulled her closer.

They were so close their breaths mingled, which made Mary feel uncomfortable with the proximity.

Given their situation, it felt too ambiguous.

She took a step back. "Matthew, what do you want from me? I appreciate your help, but that's all."

Matthew's face turned cold. "Mary, are you ungrateful?"

Mary lowered her gaze. "If we had divorced earlier, none of this would be happening."

She looked up at him. "Linda's mad at you, so she targets me. Matthew, you drag me down."

Matthew's expression darkened. He rushed over after receiving her message, only to hear this?

His enthusiasm was extinguished! Looking at Mary's overly calm face, Matthew chuckled softly.

Mary furrowed her brows. "What's so funny?"

Matthew said, "Mary, say something nice to make me happy. Maybe I'll divorce you tomorrow. But if you upset me, I won't let you go. Linda will keep targeting you, and without my help next time, how will you handle it?"

"You!" Mary's eyes widened. She hadn't expected him to be so shameless! As her cheeks flushed with anger, she tried to pull her hand away, but he held it tightly.

"Behave yourself!" Matthew wrapped his other arm around her waist and led her to the car. "If you want to die, then go ahead, struggle, and argue with me!"

Mary instantly quieted down. She needed to calm down.

As long as they were at the Montagu estate's entrance, every move of them might be under surveillance. If they had made a scene now, those who were against Matthew might come after her next time. She might face something even worse than today.

Mary pursed her lips, and it wasn't until she sat in the passenger seat that her face completely turned cold.

Matthew placed one hand on the steering wheel and reached over to grasp her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. "Mary, Do you copy? Say something nice, or do something to please me."

Mary looked at him expressionlessly. "If I do, will you divorce me immediately?"

Matthew replied, "Maybe."

Mary's long eyelashes trembled. Matthew might be teasing her, but she was genuinely afraid of facing such dangerous days in the future. So she leaned in and kissed the corner of his lips.
