Chapter 596 Only Afraid of a Tough Attitude

Mary didn't want to pay him any attention and quickened her pace up the stairs, but catching up to her was an easy task for Matthew.

He continued to keep a two-step distance from her, "Mary, are you going to invite me or not?"

Mary quickly refused, "No."

Matthew pretended to be angry, "You're really ungrateful; you know that? I brought you here to hike, to see the scenery, and you won't even invite me after you made something delicious."

Mary remained silent.

He continued, "I even watched over you all night and got up early to make you breakfast. You ate it and now you're pretending it didn't happen. I can't believe you're this kind of woman."

Matthew kept nagging at her from behind.

Mary felt a bit annoyed, but then she thought, no matter what she said, he would ignore it and do whatever he wanted, so why couldn't she do the same?

With that thought, Mary immediately calmed down. No matter how much he nagged, her expression didn't change at all.

Today wasn't a weekend, so there weren't many people hiking here, but they occasionally ran into a few.

An old man caught up from behind, came up to Mary, and said breathlessly, "Your husband has been talking the whole way, why aren't you responding to him? If you don't find him annoying, we do."

Mary was still speechless.

A faint blush of embarrassment appeared on her face.

Matthew curled his lips, stepped forward, and grabbed the hem of her coat, "Honey, are you going to take me or not?"

"Honey? Enough!" Mary turned to Matthew, her cheeks redder than before, not sure if it was because of the old man's words or because she was angry at him.

She added, "Matthew, are you done yet?"

Matthew raised an eyebrow and said calmly, "I just want to eat the food you made; is that too much to ask?"

Mary indifferently replied, "No, it's too much. You don't deserve to eat the food I make."

That was a serious statement.

After saying that, she didn't look at Matthew's expression and continued to walk up.

Matthew's smile faded, clearly surprised by what Mary had said. After all, she hadn't gotten angry despite his nagging all the way.

Matthew lowered his eyes slightly, hiding the emotions in them.

Shamelessness didn't work anymore?

Matthew still needed to handle Mary with the old methods, because she feared a tough attitude.

By the time they reached the top of the mountain, it was almost noon.

Mary was sweating and wanted to take off her jacket, but Matthew held her shoulders, "Don't take it off; it's windy at the top."

Mary dodged his hand but didn't take off her jacket either; she didn't want to catch a cold.

Walking to the edge of the cliff and looking into the distance, Mary's state of mind changed once again.

Indeed, the view from the top of the mountain was different from the bottom.

It seemed like a barrier in her heart had been broken, and those moments that once made her feel despair and pain were gradually fading.

Mary took a deep breath, then put her hands around her mouth and shouted out loud.

Matthew stood behind her, watching her vent her emotions with a shout, and felt a sudden jolt in his heart.

In that instant, a strong sense of brokenness and pain erupted from her, and her slender body seemed on the verge of collapse.

Almost instinctively, Matthew reached out and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly.

The scream was forcibly stopped, and Mary felt completely off.

"Matthew, what are you doing now?" Mary tried in vain to push him away.
