Chapter 242 What Matthew Did

The ambulance got there fast.

Mary and David headed to the hospital together.

Peter and his crew struggled to get up. He was bruised all over and spat out blood, eyes full of hate.

"Find out who that guy was. I want him dead!" Peter growled at his men.

They nodded, "Got it."

They couldn't believe one guy took down a dozen of them!

David had a full check-up. He had a slight rib fracture and needed rest and regular check-ups.

Mary looked guilty. "I'm sorry, it's my fault you got hurt."

David, weak on the hospital bed, said, "Don't blame yourself. We're friends. How could I not help? You should leave while they’re distracted."

"What about you?" Mary asked, worried.

David had helped her, and Peter wouldn't let him off easy.

David smiled, "Once you leave, they can't do anything to me."

Mary didn't think it was that simple. "You should rest. I'll figure it out."

David hesitated, "What about your husband..."

Mary's face froze, thinking of Matthew. "It's fine, he's very busy."

David noticed her coldness and asked, "Are you and your husband not getting along?"

Mary didn't want to discuss it. "I'll go buy some things for you."

David watched her leave and closed his eyes.

Mary quickly bought the items, set them up, and said, "I'll stay here tonight. You just rest."

David said, "No need, I'm fine. You must be scared. You should change hotels."

Peter knew where she was staying and would harass her.

Mary smiled and shook her head. "I'm fine, don't worry."

Seeing her insist, David didn't argue. He actually hoped she'd stay.

The next day, Mary went out to buy breakfast and heard voices as she reached the door.

"David, do you know why you keep getting rejected at interviews? Someone blocked you. You've been blacklisted."

David was shocked. "Someone's targeting me? Do you know who?"

"I was curious too. It's someone named Matthew, not from Lindenville. He's a big investor here. No one would cross him. But what did you do to piss him off?"

David was confused. "I have no idea."

At the door, Mary's face turned cold.

'David's job troubles are because of Matthew!' Mary thought.

Mary composed herself and entered the room, where David, looking a bit complicated, was talking to another guy.

Mary put down the breakfast and said, "Don't worry, I'll get to the bottom of this."

She then left, got into a taxi, and headed to the Opulent Oasis Hotel.
