Chapter 157 He is Awake
Mary's figure suddenly wavered.
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Shirley rushed over. "They've been married almost a year. Matthew knows Mary well. He'd never think she'd poison him!"
"Is that so?" Herman smirked, then opened the ward door and walked in.
Shirley frowned, "Hey, what do you mean? Explain yourself!"
She tried to follow but was blocked by a bodyguard. As Mary's friend, she wasn't allowed in.
"This is infuriating!" Shirley's cute face scrunched up in anger. She turned and saw Mary staring blankly ahead, her face pale.
"Mary, don't listen to him. He's just trying to scare you!" Shirley quickly reassured her.
Mary shook her head, "He's not lying. Matthew might really end up resenting me."
Shirley was baffled, "How is that possible? Before regaining his memory, Matthew loved you so much. Even if he remembers now, those feelings shouldn't just vanish. He knows who you are."
Mary gave a bitter smile, "If it were the old Matthew, I'd be sure. But now, I can't be."
The real Matthew was unpredictable, suspicious, and sometimes ruthless, which was a Matthew that Mary had never seen before.
As Matthew's friend, Herman knew a lot about him. If he mentioned it, there had to be some truth to it.
Shirley hugged her, "Mary, it won't happen. Don't worry."
Mary closed her eyes, leaning on Shirley's shoulder, taking a brief rest.
After a while, Shirley said, "Let's go get some breakfast. You need strength to wait for him to wake up, right?"
Mary wanted to refuse, but the thought of not being able to see him wake up if she collapsed made her nod, "Okay."
Shirley sighed in relief. They left the hospital and grabbed something to eat nearby.
When they returned, the ward door opened. Cindy walked out, a cold smile on her face, "You deserve it. You may be Matthew's wife, so what? The one taking care of him inside is Laura. She's the one approved by the Montagu family as Matthew's wife. You're nothing!"
Mary slapped her earlier, her face still stinging. Cindy held a grudge and would definitely retaliate against Mary!
"A mistress being so arrogant, society's morals have truly declined!" Shirley remarked.
Cindy's expression darkened, "You both know in your hearts who's the third party here!"
Mary stopped Shirley from saying more, "It's pointless," she said flatly.
Shirley was being emotional and couldn't control herself.
Indeed, arguing with Cindy here was pointless. It would achieve nothing but affect their emotions.
She linked arms with Mary and headed straight into the ward.
Cindy reached out to stop them. "Uncle Richard said you're not allowed in!" Cindy raised her chin triumphantly.
Shirley couldn't hold back anymore, "Are you a watchdog of the Montagu family? Shouldn't you have a leash around your neck for being so obedient?"
"You!" Cindy's face turned ugly. She was about to say something when suddenly, there was a commotion inside! "Matthew, are you awake?"
