Chapter 67 Hurry Up and Get a Divorce, Don't Drag Me Down
In the evening, the partners in Emerald Isle City heard about Matthew's accident and came to visit.
Mary just observed from the side and remained silent throughout.
After everyone left, she closed the door and asked, "You mentioned earlier that the brakes failed. Was it intentional?"
Matthew replied, "Possibly."
Frowning, Mary asked, "Who would do such a thing? What would they gain from it?"
Matthew explained, "Plenty, and we can't rule out the possibility that it was someone from Lindwood City. Once I'm gone, there will be no one to inherit the Montagu family."
Currently, Matthew was the sole heir of the Montagu family. If something happened to him, the predators from not only Lindwood but also elsewhere would try to tear the Montagu Group apart to gain benefits.
The Montagu Group's vast resources could strengthen other companies, even if they received only a portion of its assets.
Mary's expression became more serious. After contemplating for a while, she walked to the bedside and said sternly, "So, when we get back, let's get a divorce ASAP."
Matthew looked at her incredulously, "What?"
Mary blinked, "To prevent your situation from affecting me. I'm just an ordinary person. If I get dragged into your mess and end up losing a limb, wouldn't I cry my eyes out?"
Matthew fell silent because he was speechless!
Suddenly, he felt that her previous refusal to divorce was not a bad idea.
Mary, however, remained serious. "I've just figured that you're actually a good person. You probably regained your memory and realized the danger around you, which is why you wanted a divorce, right?"
Mary continued, "Stop stalling. Let's get a divorce when we get back, okay?"
Matthew replied, "I have a headache."
Mary said, "Rest well then. I won't disturb you."
She sat quietly on the sofa, completely quiet.
The atmosphere in the ward became slightly tranquil, leaving an inexplicable feeling.
Mary closed her eyes, and the sense of relaxation in her eyes gradually disappeared.
She had never imagined that he could be in such danger.
Mary thought about the rumors she had heard before.
Matthew had been kidnapped when he was a teenager, losing both of his elder brothers and surviving alone. Later, he was in a car accident and remained in a vegetative state for a year. After waking up, he lost his memory and was wandering on the street until she found him.
He was born into a noble family, but his fate was more tumultuous than hers, who grew up in an orphanage.
These incidents seemed isolated, but they all seemed to target the Montagu family.
As long as Matthew was alive, would these things never end?
Mary's mind wandered, and her heart sank with her thoughts.
Three days later, Matthew was discharged.
Mary went out to get lunch and found him dressed when she returned, with his arm still in a cast but his expression as cold and noble as ever.
"You're not fully recovered yet. Why are you leaving?" Mary frowned and asked.
Matthew replied, "I'll rest more at home. There is something I have to deal with now."
Mary inquired, "What is it?"
Looking at her, Matthew asked, "Do you want to come along?"
Mary hesitated, "Is it okay?"
She eventually got into Matthew's car.
The driver was his bodyguard, Sam Wilson, a fierce-looking man whose gaze was unfriendly toward Mary.
After a brief eye contact, Mary looked away. She leaned towards Matthew and whispered, "Why is your bodyguard glaring at me? I didn't provoke him, did I?"
