Chapter 113 The Dessert Made by the Maid

"Mary!" Victoria suddenly remembered her and reached out with a smile. "Where'd you go? Don't wanna play with me anymore?"

Mary walked over and took her hand. "Remember? I hide, and you scold him."

Victoria hesitated, then nodded. "Right, Matthew bullied you. I'll scold him."

Matthew's eyes locked on Mary. "Did you run to Grandma to tattle?"

Mary raised an eyebrow. "So what?"

Matthew's face darkened.

Victoria smacked him lightly. "What did I tell you? Why are you still glaring at your wife?"

Mary turned to Victoria. "Grandma, you're so nice to me."

Victoria smiled. "I like you most; of course, I'll treat you well. Try this: a new dessert the maid made. It's delicious."

She picked up a piece and brought it to Mary's lips. Mary paused, glancing at Laura, who looked a bit pale.

Mary took the dessert. "Thanks, Grandma."

"Eat up. If you like it, I'll have the maid make it for you all the time. Don't worry, I'll give her a raise!"

Victoria beamed like she was offering a treasure.

Mary couldn't quite describe her feelings. She took a bite and nodded. "It's really good."

Victoria smiled at Laura. "Mary loves it. Make more, okay?"

Laura forced a smile. "Sure."

She cursed inwardly, 'Damn it!'

She worked hard to impress Victoria, only to be mistaken for a maid!

"Grandma, Laura isn't a maid," Matthew finally said.

Victoria blinked. "Then who is she?"

Mary looked at Matthew, her eyes clear but with a hint of mockery.

How would Matthew introduce Laura now?

If he had divorced Mary earlier, Laura would be his wife by now.

Matthew, this mess is all on you.

Sensing Mary's thoughts, Matthew spoke calmly. "Laura is my friend, Grandma. Two years ago, she saved my life. If it weren't for her, I might've died."

Victoria suddenly understood. "Oh, she saved you. So she became a maid here?"

Mary's mouth twitched.

Victoria grabbed Laura's hand. "You're a kind girl. You saved him, and I'm grateful. Don't worry, I'll make sure he gives you a raise."

Laura pulled her hand back and forced a smile. "I am not feeling well. I'll go to the bathroom."

Matthew frowned. "What's wrong? Shall I take you to the hospital?"

Laura shook her head. "No." She quickly walked to the bathroom.

Victoria kept reminding Matthew about the raise while Matthew's eyes were on Mary. "If you have any problem, come at me. Why drag Grandma into this mess?"
