Chapter 777 Scheming

Matthew looked down a bit and said quietly, "I'm still young. My good times are just getting started."

Ronan didn't know what to say.

Once Shirley had rested enough, Herman pulled her back onto the dance floor, determined to teach her how to dance.

Mary watched from the sidelines, a smile tugging at her lips.

She thought she saw the shadow of love.

She couldn't help but wonder, what if she hadn't stopped Shirley and Herman from being together back then?

She and Shirley were different after all.

Shirley would find happiness, Mary was sure of it.

A waiter passed by, and Mary reached out for a glass of juice. She took a small sip, the sweet and sour taste easing the slight burning sensation in her stomach. She sat in the lounge area, waiting to leave.

But for some reason, she started to feel very hot, even breaking out in a sweat on her forehead.

Mary fanned herself with her hand and stood up, thinking of going to the balcony for some fresh air.

"Don't go out there, you might catch a cold."

A concerned voice from a nearby girl stopped her.

Mary looked over. It was someone she didn't recognize. "I'm feeling a bit hot, just wanted some fresh air."

The girl suggested, "Maybe the air conditioning here is too strong. Why don't you go to the lounge upstairs? It's cooler there, you'll feel more comfortable."

Mary thought it made sense and nodded. "Okay, thanks."

The girl just gave the suggestion and didn't accompany her upstairs.

Mary held onto the railing as she climbed the stairs, feeling increasingly hot and a bit dizzy.

By the time she reached the second floor, she was frowning.

A waiter passing by noticed her and asked, "Mrs. Montagu, are you alright?"

Mary replied, "Is there an empty room? I'm feeling hot and need to rest."

The waiter nodded, "Yes, please follow me."

Mary followed the waiter down the hallway to the very end. The waiter opened a door, and the cool air inside instantly made her feel a bit better.

"Thanks."

Mary expressed her gratitude and walked in, immediately sitting on the sofa.

The room was indeed cooler than outside, and her body felt much more comfortable, though her mind was still a bit foggy.

Maybe it was because she hadn't slept well the night before. She closed her eyes.

A faint fragrance filled the air, slowly making its way into Mary's senses.

Robert had a few drinks and, after calming Joan down, left the room.

A waiter hurried over and said, "Mr. Williams, Miss Smith seems to be feeling unwell and is resting in one of the private rooms. Would you like to check on her?"

Miss Smith?

There was only one person with that name at the party.

Robert's eyes darkened. "Lead the way."

The door to the private room opened, and Robert saw Mary slumped on the sofa. Her skin was flushed, and she was frowning, tugging at her collar as if she were very uncomfortable.

Robert rushed over. "Mary, what's wrong?"

He patted her face, but she didn't respond.

Just then, the door behind him suddenly closed and locked!

Robert's expression darkened. He quickly walked to the door. "Open the door!"

There was no response from outside.

This was a premeditated trap!

Someone was targeting him and Mary!
