Chapter 169 Persuade Her to Get Pregnant
Matthew stared into her clear eyes. Her face was still a bit pale, and her eyes darkened.
Mary suddenly leaned back. "Forget it, you're already tainted. I don't like it."
Matthew was annoyed. "What did you say?" he asked coldly.
Mary shrugged. "It's bound to happen. I'm just saying it now. What's the big deal?"
Matthew looked at her indifferent face, feeling a surge of anger.
He asked, "Weren't you here to talk about divorce?"
Mary seemed to remember. "Oh, right. I forgot until you mentioned it."
She picked up the papers, glanced at them, then tore them up in front of him.
"I'm not getting a divorce!" she declared, tossing the pieces into the trash and walking away, ignoring Matthew's cold expression.
Right! She was there to provoke him. Divorce or not? Why should he decide everything, making her suffer? She wasn't having it.
As she left the hospital, the sky had darkened, and the streets were busy, but Mary felt a deep sense of loneliness.
"Mary." A familiar voice called out. Mary turned to see Linda standing nearby, smiling.
Mary felt wary but stayed polite. "Mrs. Montagu, can I help you?"
Linda suggested, "Care for a coffee?"
Mary declined. "Sorry, not a good time."
She remembered how Linda had set her up before, leading to harassment from Brenda. If Matthew hadn't shown up, she would've been labeled a bully.
Linda approached, her eyes gentle. "Mary, are you still mad about before? It was my fault. I didn't know that child would lie. I promise it won't happen again."
Linda, as Richard Montagu's wife, apologizing was a big deal. Most people would feel flattered.
However, Mary stayed calm. "Mrs. Montagu, if you have something to say, speak up. I don't like beating around the bush."
Linda smiled. "I like your straightforwardness." She pointed to a café across the street. "Let's go there."
After a pause, Mary nodded, curious about what Linda wanted.
In the café's private section, Linda ordered two coffees. Once the waiter left, she smiled at Mary. "You've been married to Matthew for a while. Why no kids?"
Mary replied, "We're still young, no rush."
Linda said, "Before Matthew regained his memory, sure. But now his status is different. He represents the Montagu family. If you want to stay with him, you need to take action."
Mary raised an eyebrow. "Like pregnancy?"
Linda countered, "Don't you want to be with him forever? I can tell you love him."
Mary chuckled. "Are you suggesting you'll help me?"
Linda smiled. "He can't let go of Laura because she once saved him. If Laura's out of the picture, he'll focus on you. Mary, having a child gives you leverage. He won't divorce you easily."
