Chapter 428 Feeding Her Grapes
She had this overly sweet smile plastered on her face.
Herman was sprawled out on the couch, eyeing her shaky hand with the wine glass. He said, deadpan, "If you spill that wine on me, you better lick it clean."
Shirley went quiet.
'Damn it!' she thought.
Herman had totally read her mind!
She quickly steadied the wine glass. "No way, I'm just toasting to you. I wouldn't do something so mean."
Herman chuckled but didn't push it. He picked up his glass and clinked it with hers.
Shirley watched him take a sip, then lifted her own glass. But she must've had too much earlier because she felt dizzy, and the wine splashed all over Herman's pants.
Her eyes went wide in shock. "I didn't mean to!"
Herman's face darkened. He slammed his glass on the table. "Shirley, you really outdid yourself!"
Shirley grabbed a napkin to wipe him down. "I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to. I'll clean it up."
Herman stood up. "Come over here and clean it!"
With a grim face, he headed straight to the restroom.
Shirley quickly followed, feeling regretful and wondering why she had to get dizzy at that moment.
Mary blinked, watching them leave one after the other, a bit confused. "Why did they leave?"
Sean looked at her and asked, "You okay?"
Mary nodded. "I'm fine."
Sean said, "There are rooms upstairs where you can rest. Let me take you there."
Mary shook her head. "No need. I'll wait for Shirley to come back."
Sean didn't push it and just sat beside her, unusually calm.
Mary's gaze settled on his face. He looked like the old, gentle Matthew. The current Matthew was too cold and she didn't like it.
She asked, "Have you graduated from college?"
Sean was taken aback and nodded. "Just graduated."
Mary was surprised. "You came here right after graduation? What did you major in?"
Sean said, "Architectural design. It takes time to make money in this field. Something happened at home, and I need money."
Mary patted his shoulder. "How much do you need? Tell me, I can lend it to you."
Sean shook his head. "No need. I can manage on my own."
Mary smiled slightly. "As a designer, you need to keep your inspiration. If you keep working in a place like this, you'll get tired easily. I'm also an architectural designer. If you need a job, let me know."
Sean nodded. "Okay."
Mary felt a bit dizzy and leaned back, half-closing her eyes, waiting for Shirley to return.
Sean picked up a piece of fruit and brought it to her lips. "Want some grapes?"
Mary looked at him with a dazed expression, not speaking. They were quite close, and when Matthew stood outside the room, this was the scene he saw.
She gazed at Sean tenderly, as if she had countless emotions to express.
A cold aura enveloped Matthew, almost becoming tangible!
Mary opened her mouth to refuse, but Sean suddenly popped the grape into her mouth.
A smile appeared on his clean, handsome face. "These grapes are really sweet," he said.
