Chapter 840 I Quit!

Herman's face went pale when he heard the news.

"What do you want with her?"

Matthew's voice was low and serious. "She better not know anything, or else..."

Herman's tone matched his seriousness. "Matthew, even if she does know something, you can't hurt her. Forget about whether Mary would agree, I won't let it happen."

Matthew closed his eyes briefly and said, "Bring her here."

With that, he hung up the phone.

The only hope was that Shirley knew where she went and what she did.

Otherwise, he really didn't know what he might do.

Shirley was at work when she got Herman's call. She wedged her phone between her ear and shoulder, typing on her keyboard as she asked, "What's up?"

Herman said, "Can you step out for a bit? I need to talk to you."

Shirley was already irritated by her boss, and now Herman wanted her to leave during work hours? That would definitely get her in trouble.

She replied bluntly, "If it's important, say it over the phone or wait until I'm off work. I can't leave right now."

Herman said, "It's about Mary. Can you come out now?"

Shirley's fingers paused on the keyboard. She grabbed her phone and asked seriously, "What do you mean? What happened to Mary?"

Herman said, "Mary's missing."

"What?!"

Shirley jumped up, grabbed her bag, and headed out.

"What happened? When did she go missing?" she asked as she walked out.

Just then, her boss came out of the office and saw her leaving before the end of her shift. He immediately called out to her.

"Shirley, where are you going? It's not quitting time yet. Are you planning to leave early? I'm telling you, leaving early will cost you your pay!"

Shirley turned back, "Fine, dock my pay. Keep it for yourself. I quit!"

Ignoring her boss's darkening expression, she got into the elevator and left.

Nothing was more important than Mary!

A job could be replaced!

Herman heard her words and frowned. "What's going on?"

Shirley said, "That's not important. Just tell me how Mary went missing."

Herman said, "I just got the news. She deliberately ditched the people Matthew sent to protect her and left in disguise."

Shirley was stunned.

How could this happen?

Why did Mary suddenly leave?

And on her own!

She hung up the phone and rushed out as soon as the elevator doors opened. Seeing Herman waiting at the building entrance, she immediately asked, "What about Matthew? Did he send people to look for her?"

Herman opened the car door. "Get in first. It's cold outside."

Shirley got in the car and dialed Mary's number.

But it was Matthew who answered.

Shirley frowned. "Why do you have Mary's phone? Did you find her?"

Matthew's voice was icy. "Where did she go?"

"I don't know!" Shirley said, "I only found out from Herman!"

Matthew was silent for a moment, then hung up.

Herman drove Shirley to Maple Grove Manor.

Inside, they found Matthew holding a cigarette, his face extremely cold.

Seeing Shirley, he asked directly, "You really don't know?"

Shirley's eyes were cold. "I should be asking you. Did you upset her again? Why else would she leave?"
