Chapter 807 Can I Say I Have Something to Do Now?
Mary walked over and set the overturned chair upright, the noise making Matthew frown.
Without turning around, he said coldly, "Get outta here!"
Mary nodded, fixed the chair, and turned to leave.
Hearing her voice, Matthew spun around abruptly. Seeing her about to leave, he quickly strode over and grabbed her wrist.
"Oh, I didn't realize it was you. Sorry."
His sharp, handsome face first showed a hint of surprise, then the icy look in his eyes gradually melted away. Now, his gaze was filled with concern, as if afraid she might be upset.
Mary glanced at him and asked, "Is the injury bad?"
Matthew's eyes brightened a bit, and he smirked, "You worried about me?"
Mary replied in a calm tone, "I'm just concerned that if you're seriously hurt, it might delay..."
Before she could finish, Matthew suddenly pulled her into a tight embrace.
"I knew you cared."
His deep, magnetic voice sounded in her ear, tinged with a hint of laughter.
Mary was speechless.
Couldn't even let someone finish their sentence?
Why was he so shameless?
He held her so tightly, as if trying to merge her into his body. She frowned and said, "Let go, it's uncomfortable."
"Alright."
Hearing this, Matthew immediately released her but didn't let go of her hand. He led her to a small sitting area, had her sit on the couch, and asked, "You cold?"
As he spoke, he clasped her hands in his large palms to warm them.
Her fingertips were cold, and as he held them, they curled slightly. She pulled her hands away.
"Have you found out who those people are?"
Matthew replied, "They're from a nearby village. We checked their account records, and there have been large transfers in the past few days. They're being paid by someone."
Mary frowned at this, "Were they after you?"
Matthew sat beside her, a faint chill in his eyes. "I fear they were after both of us. The people they dealt with aren't the masterminds, so the trail has gone cold. But I suspect this isn't over yet."
Mary's expression darkened.
Why did this have to happen now?
Could she and Matthew still go through with the divorce in a few days?
"Don't worry."
Matthew seemed to sense her concern and said directly, "It won't be long. I won't go back on my word."
Mary said nothing.
The office fell into silence.
She felt uneasy. She had come to check on his condition, and since he seemed fine, she had no reason to stay.
She stood up and said, "Since you're okay, I'll be going."
Matthew looked at her, hesitated, and said, "What if I say I need you?"
Mary's lips twitched slightly.
He took her hand again and pulled her back down onto the couch.
"Mary, stay with me, just for this afternoon. You don't have to do anything, just be here. It'll put me at ease." Matthew's long eyes gazed at her, effortlessly speaking words of affection.
Something in Mary's heart was touched, but her expression remained cool.
"I have things to do."
