Chapter 409 Very Gentle with Her
Mary's face went rigid.
Shirley lost it. "What are you staring at? She came and grabbed Mary's hand out of nowhere. Mary doesn't even know her!"
Jessica started crying. "Matthew, it hurts so bad."
Matthew's face turned dark, and he called for the bodyguard. "Get Ms. Johnson to the hospital."
The bodyguard stepped up, scooped Jessica up, and hurried out.
Jessica didn't fight it, but there was a cold glint in her eyes as she looked down.
Matthew turned to Mary. "You're coming to the hospital with me."
Shirley stepped in front of Mary. "Why? This has nothing to do with Mary!"
Matthew's eyes narrowed, his gaze at Shirley turning icy. A shiver ran down her spine, as if she were being strangled.
Mary gently pushed Shirley behind her. "You should head back."
Shirley hesitated. "But..."
Mary gave her a faint smile. "It's fine. This has nothing to do with me, so I'll be okay."
Shirley sighed, "Alright, call me if anything happens."
"Will do." Mary nodded.
Shirley left, glancing back every few steps, worry etched on her face.
Mary looked at Matthew, then rolled up her sleeve, showing nail marks on her skin.
"This is what she did," Mary said calmly, looking at Matthew. "I don't know why, but I barely know her and couldn't have hurt her."
Matthew's eyes landed on her arm. Her skin was so delicate, even a little pressure left a mark.
His gaze grew colder. "But she got hurt because of you, so you're coming to the hospital with me."
Mary felt a chill in her heart, her fingers curling slightly. She nodded. "Alright."
Matthew walked out first, with Mary following him straight to the hospital.
Jessica's arm was being treated by the doctor. The burn wasn't severe, but it looked nasty.
Soon, the doctor finished and came out. Matthew said, "I'll talk to the doctor about the care instructions." With that, he walked in.
Seeing this, Jessica smiled at Mary. "Mrs. Montagu, Matthew is so caring and gentle. You must be very happy."
Mary lowered her eyes, staying silent, bitterness welling up inside her, knowing she would never receive the patience and gentleness he freely gave to others.
Meanwhile, in the consultation room, the doctor looked at the stern Matthew and asked, "Anything else?"
Matthew's expression was cold. "If not properly cared for, what will happen to her wound?"
The doctor replied, "It'll fester, get infected, and be painful for a long time."
Matthew nodded. "Got it."
Then he got up and left, leaving the doctor momentarily puzzled before quickly returning to work.
Leaving the hospital, Matthew said to Jessica, "I'll arrange for someone to take care of you. Just rest up."
Jessica's smile widened. "I understand, thank you."
Matthew replied, "You're welcome, it's my duty."
His demeanor was gentle, a stark contrast to the coldness he showed Mary.
