Chapter 293 Are You Really Worried About Me?
Mary suddenly flipped out, gripping her wrist so tight it turned red.
Matthew shot her a look. "Mary, what the heck are you doing?"
Mary dropped her head and muttered, "Laura's here to see you, why are you still holding onto me?"
Mary thought, 'Why won't Matthew let go? Why's he still clinging to me? Can't he see Laura's about to burst into tears?'
Isn't he worried Laura's heart will shatter seeing us like this?'
But then Matthew pulled her into a bear hug, like he wanted to fuse them together.
Mary went stiff, her chin resting on his shoulder. As she stared at the darkening sky, tears started to well up in her eyes.
"Laura's not my concern, Mary. You're my wife; don't give up your place."
Matthew's deep, magnetic voice echoed in her ear.
In that moment, Mary felt her walls come crashing down.
She squeezed her eyes shut, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
Laura stood a bit away, watching them hug tight, feeling a sharp sting in her eyes!
She knew Matthew was gonna save Mary, so she faked fainting, but Matthew didn't come back!
He used to rush back in a heartbeat!
Laura thought, 'In his heart, I'm really not the most important person anymore! Right now, he's even ignoring me for Mary's sake. When have I ever been this humiliated?'
Laura's hands, hanging by her sides, clenched into fists, her face struggling to keep a friendly smile.
"I heard Ms. Smith was in trouble, so I came to check. Ms. Smith, I'm so glad you're okay. Matthew and I were so worried."
Even so, she said it on purpose.
Laura cursed inwardly, 'I just wanna piss Mary off!'
Mary stepped back from Matthew's hug, her face blank. She calmly looked at Laura and asked, "Are you really worried about me? Then why'd you call Matthew's name first when you saw me?"
Laura's face stiffened. "I..."
Mary sneered, "Anyone who didn't know would think he was the one in trouble."
With that, she walked past Laura.
Matthew's gaze fell on Laura's face, his tone growing colder, "Weren't you fainted?"
Laura said awkwardly, "I just fell asleep; the doctor misdiagnosed."
Matthew's tone got even icier, "That doctor is so useless. They shouldn't be allowed to stay in the hospital and mess with people."
With those words, he walked past Laura, clearly showing his disappointment in her.
"Matthew, I really am worried about Ms. Smith. I won't pursue the kidnapping. Don't you believe me?" Laura looked at his back, speaking somewhat urgently.
Matthew's steps halted, his tall, slender figure exuding a chilling vibe.
Because of the kidnapping, his relationship with Mary had hit rock bottom.
Now, Laura was bringing it up again.
He turned back, his eyes filled with coldness as he looked at her. "Should I be grateful to you for being so generous?"
"You..."
Laura was floored. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
Laura mused, 'He's mocking me! How could he become like this? He wasn't like this before! What went wrong? Or did he find out something? Impossible! Absolutely impossible! If he had really found out something, he wouldn't be this calm.'
