Chapter 236 Made Him Waste His Feelings in Vain
David couldn't handle it. Seeing Mary in Matthew's arms, he felt betrayed.
'Why doesn't she tell me she is married?' David wondered.
He felt like he wasted his emotions.
David turned and left.
Matthew noticed David's reaction with a hint of mockery in his eyes, then looked back at Mary.
Mary, tipsy, had a flushed face and glossy, confused eyes.
"Matthew," she said, cupping his face and kissing his chin. "Everything before was a dream, right? You're not the Montagus heir, not the DK Group CEO, and you don't have someone you like, right?"
Drunk, Mary looked serious.
Matthew's throat tightened, and his heart sank.
He held her and asked softly, "Is it bad that I'm the DK Group CEO? I can get you a bigger house."
"No, not at all!" Mary shook her head. "If you're the CEO, you'll have someone you like and want to divorce me. But I don't want a divorce."
Her voice became muffled.
Matthew hadn't seen her this sweet in a long time. It hit him hard.
When sober, she was distant and cold. Now, her heart and eyes were all for him.
Matthew wanted this moment to last forever.
"Matthew, why aren't you saying anything?" Mary got anxious. "Was it not a dream? Do you want to divorce me? You jerk, if I knew you were this bad, I wouldn't have taken you home. I'd have let you starve!"
Matthew looked at her deeply. "When you met me, weren't you curious about my identity?"
Mary nodded. "Yes, I was."
Matthew's eyes darkened and mused, 'Is it true?'
Mary pinched his face. "I thought, how could such a handsome guy be so silly? I had to take you home before other women did."
She giggled, then hugged his waist, pressing her face to his chest. "Matthew, I wish you never regained your memory."
Matthew's Adam's apple bobbed. He pinched her chin, making her look at him. "If I weren't the CEO or the Montagus heir, would you still have taken me home and loved me?"
Mary blinked, feeling a sudden chill. "You're hurting me."
"Answer me."
Matthew stared at her, having watched the footage of their meeting many times but still unsure if she knew his identity.
If she knew, she was incredibly cunning. He had spent a year with her without noticing.
'But what if she didn't know?' Matthew didn't dare to think further or trust easily.
A faint light flickered in his eyes.
A cold wind blew, and Mary shivered, burrowing into his arms. "Matthew, I'm so cold. Hold me."
Despite his tension, he couldn't wake her up.
In the final analysis, he was hooked on her current gentleness and obedience.
