Chapter 817 So Heartless, So Cold, He Loves It.

Mary thought for a moment and then said bluntly, "If this is about me and him, you don't need to say anything more. I'll handle it myself."

Joey fell silent. He had indeed come because of that issue. The incident with Matthew hitting someone was causing quite a stir, and he had hoped to persuade Mary one more time. But hearing her distant tone, a faint sadness inexplicably washed over him. It hurt a little. He wasn't sure why.

Seeing his silence, Mary said, "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up. I'm at work."

Joey replied, "Alright, as long as you know what you're doing. I just thought, since you were so eager to get a divorce before but couldn't find a way, now there's a perfect opportunity right in front of you. I wanted to help. But I'll leave everything up to you and won't disturb your work anymore. Goodbye."

He hung up. A hint of mockery flashed in Mary's eyes. Joey would say anything to help Rebecca. Anyone who didn't know better might actually think he was doing it for her sake. Mary put down her phone and refocused on her computer. She tried to immerse herself in work, and by the time she finished, it was time to leave.

Gathering her things, she walked out of the building and saw a handsome man leaning against a car. He was wearing a black coat over a royal blue suit, his tie perfectly in place. He looked tall, striking, and exuded an air of elegance.

Mary quickened her pace and asked, puzzled, "What are you doing here?"

Matthew replied, "Picking you up from work."

Mary suppressed her emotions and asked, "Weren't you bullied? You seem fine to me."

Matthew raised an eyebrow slightly, "I was bullied. Do I need to cry for you to believe it?"

Mary said, "Not necessarily."

Matthew opened the passenger door. "If you think my crying would prove I was bullied, I don't mind shedding a tear for you."

Mary was speechless. That was unnecessary. She got into the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt. Matthew got in as well. The car was warm, and his attractive eyes were fixed on her, not starting the car immediately.

"What's wrong?" Mary asked, seeing him staring at her.

Matthew said, "You called me so many times. You must be very concerned about my situation. I'm letting you take a good look at me to confirm I'm okay."

Mary blinked, "You sure know how to dramatize things."

Matthew said, "I know what you're thinking. Don't be surprised."

Mary replied, "You're overthinking. I'm just worried something might happen to you and delay the divorce."

"In any case, you're still worried about me, afraid something might happen," Matthew said, conveniently ignoring the latter part of her sentence. Pretending not to hear it.

Mary fell silent. Arguing with him was pointless; he always had his logic.

Matthew stopped teasing her, started the car, and asked, "What do you want to eat?"

Mary said, "I want to go home. I don't want to have dinner with you."

Matthew responded, "I was bullied today, criticized, and had multiple meetings. Won't you comfort my wounded soul?"

Mary said, "No."

She was so heartless, so cold, but Matthew loved it.
