Chapter 37 What A Holdback
"Let's go."
Matthew stood up, blocking her line of sight.
Mary looked at him, "Why?"
Looking down at her, Matthew said, "Aren't you going to the court?"
Mary lowered her gaze, didn't say anything, and got up to leave the Montagu Mansion with him.
She glanced back at the vast and luxurious villa. Mary couldn't help but say, "It's a pity I won't be able to come here in the future."
She quite liked it here.
"You are." Matthew suddenly said.
Mary looked at him and met his deep, dark eyes. She smiled and said, "I won't come. What if I run into you and Laura being intimate? That would be so awkward."
Matthew's brows furrowed, a sudden chill in his demeanor.
He opened the car door and got in without looking at her again.
Mary got in the passenger seat, but the driver didn't dare to start the car.
She blinked in confusion, "What's wrong? Let's go."
Sweat beaded on the driver's forehead as he stammered, "Ma'am, please sit in the back."
Mary turned to Matthew, noticing his darker expression. She couldn't help but find it amusing, "The one who let me sit in the front seat before was you, and now you don't want me to. How unpredictable you are after regaining your memory?"
Matthew just stared at her coldly.
Without his instructions, the driver didn't dare to drive.
Mary pursed her lips and moved to the back seat. "You're so hard to please. It's a good thing we're getting divorced."
Otherwise, living with him would be unbearable.
As she spoke, the atmosphere in the car became even more tense. The driver cautiously glanced in the rearview mirror before finally starting the engine.
Mary took out her phone and found it was off. She turned it on, and countless messages flooded in for a while, most of which were from Shirley.
Mary called her back.
"Hello, Mary, where are you? Are you safe now? If you've been kidnapped, just cough once, and I'll call the police immediately!" Shirley's anxious voice came through.
Mary chuckled, "I'm not that important. Who would kidnap me? I'm fine. I'm just calling to check in."
Shirley breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank goodness you're okay. Otherwise, I'd hate myself."
Mary, "Why?"
Shirley replied, "I couldn't stop Matthew. He forced you to leave. If it weren't for him, you'd be off with that handsome guy by now!"
Mary's eyelashes trembled at her words. She subconsciously glanced at the man beside her, who had his eyes closed, his profile deeply shadowed, exuding an aura of low pressure.
She covered the phone with her hand and whispered, "Exactly, what a holdback!"
As soon as she spoke, a cold gaze fell on her.
Mary cleared her throat and said, "Alright, I'm fine. I'll hang up now."
"Okay."
After hanging up, she looked at the person next to her and said, "What are you looking at?"
Matthew stared at her with deep, unreadable eyes.
Just then, Mary's phone rang. It was a call from her department supervisor, Kevin Martinez.
She answered the phone, "Hello, Boss."
"Mary, where are you? Get back here right away. There's a problem with the project you're in charge of!"
Mary's expression immediately turned serious, "What happened?"
Kevin said, "I can't explain over the phone. Come back now."
