Chapter 250 Intentionally Embarrassing Her
Jenny knew Mary was Matthew's wife but pretended otherwise to embarrass her.
Jessica, Jenny's cousin, had already spilled the beans about Mary's identity. Mary, in Jenny's eyes, was just an ordinary person, unworthy of Matthew.
Jenny shot Mary a disdainful look. Matthew's face hardened, and he said, "Jenny, you're an adult. Know your limits. This is none of your business."
Jenny was taken aback by his serious tone and felt hurt. "Matthew, why are you being so harsh? You used to be so nice to me!"
Mary was also surprised by Matthew's defense. She thought, 'Is he standing up for me?' She kept her feelings in check.
Noise erupted nearby. Matthew said, "Your friends are here. Go see what gifts they brought you."
Jenny, clearly upset, glared at Mary and walked away.
Mary softly asked, "Matthew, are you trying to start something with me?"
Matthew replied, "Am I?"
Mary said, "Jenny already resents me. You brought me here, so you need to keep me safe. If anything happens, it's on you."
Matthew's lips curved into a faint smile. "Don't worry, I'll keep you safe."
Mary felt uneasy and didn't want to continue the conversation. She admired the rose garden, finding it impressive.
They strolled through the garden, enjoying the scenery. When they reached a pavilion, Matthew's phone rang. "I need to take this call," he said.
Mary nodded and stayed in the pavilion. She knew getting lost in the Johnson estate, with Jenny's hatred, could be dangerous.
Matthew stepped out to take the call. A servant, keeping an eye on things, quickly informed Jenny.
Jenny, holding a wine glass, gave some cold orders. The servant nodded and left to carry them out.
Mary sat in the pavilion. A servant brought drinks and desserts, placed them on the table, and left silently. Mary raised an eyebrow but didn't touch them.
She wondered why Matthew was taking so long. She saw him not far away and decided to walk over.
To reach him, she had to pass through a flower corridor. As she turned the corner, she heard hurried footsteps. Before she could react, someone covered her mouth with a cloth soaked in a pungent substance and she fainted.
Two bodyguards swiftly carried her away. In the dimly lit corridor, everything happened quietly.
Jenny looked at the unconscious Mary and sneered. "Throw her into the backyard. Let the dogs have a taste."
"Yes," the bodyguards replied and carried Mary to the backyard.
The Johnson Mansion had several ferocious Tibetan Mastiffs. If Mary was thrown in, she'd be in serious danger.
Jenny felt smug and thought, 'Let's see how she seduces Matthew after becoming a cripple!'
