Chapter 652 It's as if all the men in the world have died out.

Joey's smile faded a bit more as he looked at Matthew, "Mr. Montagu, isn't it irresponsible to be so fickle? When the news of your divorce came out, why didn't you go through with it? Now the news of your engagement to Jessica is all over the place; you even drag the Cooper family, into it. What exactly are you planning, Mr. Montagu?"

Matthew sneered, "You believe it when I say I'm getting a divorce? Would you believe it if I said I was God too?"

Joey's face darkened.

Mary asked in confusion, "What do you mean by dragging the Cooper family into this?"

Matthew replied, "They see me single and want to marry me off. The Johnsons are like that, and so are the Coopers. Isn't it ridiculous? As if all the men in the world have died out."

Mary fell silent.

Jessica she knew, but the Cooper family?

This was news to her.

"Matthew, I advise you to speak with more respect!" Joey said sternly, "Given your current situation, with troubles both inside and out, you can't afford to make another enemy, can you?"

Matthew gave him a cold glance, "Dealing with you is more than enough."

"Are you kidding me?" Joey sneered, "I'd like to see how you plan to clean up this mess once everything has happened."

The room suddenly felt tense, and Mary felt like she was on a battlefield.

She paused and said, "If you guys want to talk, why not do it outside? I want to rest."

Matthew spoke up, "Did you hear that? She wants to rest. What right do you, the troublemaker, have to come here and yell at me?"

"You!" Joey hadn't expected Matthew to be so rude, and his face darkened even more with anger.

However, Mary said, "Matthew, can you be more polite? The car accident wasn't entirely Mr. Cooper's fault."

Matthew replied, "None of your business."

Joey looked at the two of them, sensing a subtle tension, and then turned to Mary, "Ms. Smith, if you need anything, feel free to let me know. That offer always stands."

The implication was that if she encountered any trouble, she could tell him, and he would handle it.

For some reason, Joey felt very annoyed seeing Matthew entangle with Mary.

It wasn't out of jealousy or affection for Mary.

He just felt that Matthew shouldn't bully Mary.

Mary nodded, "I understand, thank you, Mr. Cooper."

She then turned to Matthew and said, "I've made myself very clear. Since neither of us is willing to back down, let's just leave it at that."

No one should expect to have it easy.

She had already decided to let things fall apart.

Matthew gave her a deep look but said nothing, nor did he show any intention of leaving.

The atmosphere in the room was somewhat tense.

Joey had come to get an explanation from Matthew, but instead, he got scolded and left with a darkened face.

Shirley, who had been watching from outside the room, thought Matthew was a formidable jerk.

No one ever got the better of him.

Was she still unscathed because of Mary?

Shirley sighed, not knowing what to say.

Matthew could refrain from arguing with her for Mary's sake, but he couldn't manage to get along well with Mary.
