Chapter 474 Marrying Laura
Matthew's face showed a mix of emotions as he calmly said, "It's hard to say right now. Let's wait for the doctor's results."
Mary nodded, knowing there wasn't much else they could do.
Richard shot Mary a hostile look, then turned to Matthew, "Your grandmother's condition seems to be improving. She only wants one thing—for you to marry Laura. You were the one who brought Laura to her in the first place. Now that she has this request, you can't refuse."
Linda chimed in, "Richard, but Matthew and Mary have a good relationship. Isn't this a bit inappropriate?"
Richard sneered, "A good relationship? Hasn't Mary always wanted a divorce? This is the perfect opportunity to get it done, so they won't waste each other's time!"
Linda immediately looked at Mary with concern, afraid she would be upset.
However, Mary seemed not to hear, standing in the corner with her eyes downcast, her beautiful lips pressed into a straight line.
Matthew ignored Richard's words.
He was almost going crazy looking for Samuel. Did he have the energy to care about his and Mary's issues?
It seemed he really should find something for Richard to do!
About two hours later, Victoria's test results came out.
Holding the report, the doctor said, "Mrs. Montagu's brain seems to have been stimulated, causing her to regain some previous memories. However, her dementia is not cured; it's like a ticking time bomb, and we don't know when it will go off."
Matthew asked in a deep voice, "She seems to only remember things from two years ago. She doesn't seem to recall anything from the past two years."
The doctor responded, "This is understandable. The past two years have been the peak of her illness, with her consciousness always being fuzzy. She doesn't have many memories from that time, so naturally, she wouldn't remember."
Hearing this, Matthew frowned, a coldness surrounding him.
The doctor said, "What we need to do now is keep Mrs. Montagu happy and avoid stimulating her further. She's too old to handle much more stress."
After giving some instructions, the doctor left.
Victoria was wheeled out, asleep on the hospital bed.
Matthew said, "Let's observe her in the hospital for a few days to make sure everything is fine before taking her home."
Richard had no objections to this.
Victoria was taken to a VIP ward.
Mary stood by the bed, looking at the sleeping Victoria, feeling very conflicted.
She thought to herself, 'What if Victoria really wants Matthew to marry Laura?'
For some reason, every time she thought of this possibility, her heart ached a little more.
Matthew held her hand, "Let's go home first. You were scared today. We'll come back to see Grandma tomorrow."
Mary nodded, "Okay."
Leaving the hospital with Matthew, she sat in the car, looking at the deep night outside, and asked, "Did you find out who was pressing the elevator button?"
Matthew said, "The surveillance on that floor was broken. Don't work overtime anymore. Stick to regular hours. I'll have Sam continue to protect you."
Unable to find out who was causing trouble, Mary felt uneasy, but now she was more tired than anything.
Back at Montagu Mansion, she took a shower and had just lain down when Matthew came over and lifted her dress.
Her body stiffened, realizing what he wanted to do, but she quickly relaxed.
Tonight, both of them were in a heavy mood, so nothing else happened.
