Chapter 218 Do You Still Remember Mary?

Rebecca said, "Why would she come back? Has she forgotten what happened back then?"

Barbara replied, "I never thought she would. Now's not the time to worry. What if she finds something out?"

Rebecca grinned. "She won't, Ms. Inome. She has no clue. But just to be safe, you should finish what you started back then."

Barbara's eyes lit up. "Got it!"

Then she asked, "Rebecca, when are you coming back? It's been ages since you visited."

Rebecca's tone cooled. "Ms. Inome, I have important things to do. I'll send you fifty thousand dollars later; treat yourself."

"Alright, Rebecca, you're always so thoughtful, unlike Mary. She just comes back and buys a bunch of random stuff. Who even cares about that?"

After hanging up, Barbara's eyes sparkled as she squinted at her phone, found Peter James's number, and dialed.

"Hello? Mr. James? Do you remember Mary?"

Mary and David left the orphanage.

David said, "Mary, Ms. Inome's always been like that. Don't take it to heart."

Mary asked, "That's fine. Why come back? There's a bigger world out there with more opportunities."

David studied interior design, which had limited prospects in a small town. In a big city, he could truly thrive.

David said, "I want to repay Ms. Inome. If she hadn't taken me in, I would've frozen to death that winter."

Mary stayed silent. She used to feel the same, but people change.

Mary said, "Okay, I'm heading back now."

David nodded. "Alright. If you stay a while, call me. This place has changed a lot. I can show you around."

"Okay."

Mary smiled, the sunlight highlighting her delicate features and clear eyes.

David was momentarily dazzled by her smile.

Mary got into the car and drove away.

He watched the car disappear, his hand on his chest, heart pounding.

Mary returned the car, then went to eat. Afterward, she strolled around the streets.

She bought some small crafts for Shirley and Robert, then went back to the hotel.

Just as she was about to nap, her phone rang.

She looked at it; it was an unknown number. Remembering she had given Barbara her number, she answered.

"Hello?"

"It's me," Barbara's voice came through.

Mary's eyes flickered. "Ms. Inome, did you remember something?"

Barbara responded, "Yes, I remember you have something. Let's meet tonight and talk. Come to the Opulent Oasis Hotel; I'll be waiting."

The Opulent Oasis Hotel was the top spot in Lindenville, serving high-profile guests.

Mary contemplated, 'She actually wants to meet there?'

Mary replied, "No need to go there. I can find you at the orphanage."

Barbara's tone turned colder, "I want to eat there. I raised you for so many years, and you can't even treat me to a meal there? Mary, how can you be so ungrateful?"
