Chapter 449 The Father-Son Relationship is Strained

She was just thinking about how soon she could divorce Matthew.

Matthew walked over and held out his hand.

Mary was in a black dress, looking all elegant and classy. Her beautiful features were perfectly highlighted, with a touch of innocence in her eyes.

Her waist was slender, with natural and graceful curves flowing seamlessly from her waist to her hips.

Mary put her hand in Matthew's.

Matthew held it tight, his eyes full of intense emotions, and said in a deep voice, "Mary, you look stunning."

Mary gave a slight smile, "Thanks, you just noticed?"

Matthew went quiet.

He felt a bit helpless but not mad. The tenderness in his eyes grew stronger.

He had taken Herman's advice and was being super gentle. Even though Mary was still resistant, their interactions over the past couple of days had been pretty pleasant.

If things kept going like this, their married life wouldn't be so bad.

They left Montagu Mansion and got into the car.

Victoria's birthday party was at Montagu Manor, and only the top-tier elites of Lindwood City were invited. Celebrities were just there to add some flair.

The party was super fancy. As they got out of the car, they saw a red carpet stretching from the entrance all the way into the manor's courtyard.

Every corner of the courtyard was meticulously decorated.

"Matthew's here!"

"Look, who's that woman with him?"

"Rumor has it, she's his wife!"

Whispers buzzed around Mary and Matthew.

Matthew's handsome, sharp face was cold and stern. With his deep, narrow eyes showing no warmth, he led Mary straight into the villa.

Richard was chatting with some friends. When he saw Matthew bringing Mary in, the smile on his face almost vanished!

"Excuse me for a moment," he nodded slightly to his friends and then walked towards Matthew.

"Matthew, didn't I tell you not to bring her here? What is her status? Does she deserve to be at such a party?" Richard scolded in a low voice, trying to keep his anger in check.

Matthew's expression was indifferent. "She's my wife, legally."

Richard forced himself to stay calm and asked, "Have you introduced her to anyone?"

Matthew replied, "I would've forgotten if you hadn't reminded me."

He then turned to the butler and, in a voice loud enough for all the guests in the living room to hear, said, "Get my wife a coat; it'll be chilly tonight."

The butler stayed silent.

Richard's expression instantly darkened.

"Are you deliberately opposing me?" Richard asked in a steady voice.

Matthew's expression remained calm. "No, not at all, Dad. Grandma likes her a lot. I have no reason not to bring her here."

In such a setting, Richard couldn't afford to lose his temper.

He glared at Matthew with great dissatisfaction, and when his gaze fell on Mary, it was filled with obvious disdain.

Mary was just an orphan, someone Richard looked down upon.

She didn't even have the qualifications to shine the shoes of the Montagu family members, yet now she had become Matthew's wife.

It was truly annoying!

Linda walked over. "Richard, the guests have all arrived. Whatever it is, discuss it later!"

"Alright," Richard responded and left with Linda.

Matthew lowered his eyes, his face somewhat gloomy.

Mary sighed, "You shouldn't have brought me here."

She didn't want to come either, didn't want to be here and get humiliated.

Richard's disdainful look, as if he were looking at something dirty, made her very angry.
