Chapter 273 Herman Designed Shirley
Michael took Mary back to the Opulent Oasis Hotel. After leaving the hospital, Sam vanished, probably to keep an eye on her from a distance.
Mary seemed pretty chill about it.
At the hotel, Michael walked her to her suite and said, "Ms. Smith, I've arranged for the staff to bring you a meal. Enjoy."
"Okay, thanks."
Mary nodded.
Michael smiled, "No need to be so formal. If you need anything, just let me know."
"Alright. Thank you!"
Mary went into the suite.
Even though housekeeping cleaned daily, the room still smelled like Matthew.
Feeling down, she sat on the sofa and pulled out her phone to call Shirley. But Shirley called her first.
Mary answered right away, "Shirley..."
"Mary, my luck is the worst! Guess where I am? In the desert! That jerk Herman's new movie is filming here. I'm losing it!"
Before Mary could say anything, Shirley kept ranting.
"Wait," Mary cut in, "Isn't he better now? Why are you still with him?"
Shirley sighed, "Long story. Anyway, I swear I'll never come here again. Herman is awful. I hope he never finds true love, never has kids, and if he does, may they be just like him!"
Mary's bad mood lifted, and she laughed.
Shirley sounded annoyed, "Hey, I'm turning into a sand sculpture out here, melting under the sun, and you're laughing? Do you still love me?"
"Of course, I love you the most."
Mary composed herself and asked, "So, why are you with Herman?"
Shirley hesitated, then explained, "I owe him money. He said I could work it off as his assistant."
"What?"
Mary sat up. "How much?"
"Five hundred thousand dollars."
Mary sighed in relief. "I'll transfer it to you. Pay him back and get out of there. I don't want you blown away by the wind and sand before I get back."
Shirley was almost in tears. "Thank you! Don't worry, in this life and the next, I'll be your servant to repay you!"
Mary laughed, "But how did you end up owing him so much?"
Shirley sighed. "I planned an event at work. He was the sponsor and sent something for the exhibition. I accidentally broke it, and it was worth five hundred thousand dollars. My company didn't want to take responsibility, so they fired me. I had no choice but to work for him."
Mary felt there was more to the story. "Did you keep the broken item?"
Shirley replied, "No, his people took it right away."
Mary rubbed her forehead. If she had doubts before, she was now sure.
Herman had set Shirley up.
