Chapter 379 Can't take it anymore?
Mary's body went rigid, trying to dodge him, but his grip was too strong, making it impossible to pull away.
Matthew's kisses got deeper and more intense.
Mary had enough and pinched his waist. All she felt was solid muscle.
Matthew let her go and chuckled softly, "Already can't handle it?"
His thumb brushed her lips, his eyes dark and unreadable.
Mary's breathing was a bit rapid, and she said, "I'm hungry, I want to eat."
"Alright," Matthew chuckled again. "Wait here a sec."
He went upstairs and came back down about ten minutes later, now in light-colored loungewear, looking more relaxed.
They sat in the dining room.
The table was loaded with all of Mary’s favorite foods.
He had planned for her arrival and had someone prepare her favorite dishes.
Mary's expression stayed neutral.
Matthew said, "Welcome back, Mrs. Montagu."
Mary's eyelashes fluttered, but she stayed silent.
Matthew stared at her overly calm face and suddenly pinched her chin, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "Mary, you know you have to face the consequences of a bet, right?"
Mary looked at him. "I know, that's why I came."
Matthew's grip tightened slightly on her chin. "But what's with this cold attitude? Are you unhappy? Or do you still want to divorce me?"
Mary pursed her lips slightly and broke free from his fingers. "Let's eat."
But Matthew said, "You need to make yourself clear first."
Mary looked at him. "I'm afraid if I say it, you won't feel like eating anymore."
Matthew's previously pleasant mood instantly turned cold.
He uttered in a frosty tone, "Mary, you agreed to the bet, and you set the terms. Now that you've lost, why are you giving me this attitude? Do you really think I can't live without you?"
A cold aura surrounded Matthew. He brought her back, not to have her show him this attitude!
She used to smile every day, her eyes full of tenderness, as if he was her whole world!
But now, her eyes were filled with indifference.
It seemed like she no longer liked him!
But how could falling in love with someone change so easily?
Mary gripped her utensils and said, "Matthew, you're asking for too much. You only said not to mention divorce. Fine, I won't. You also said to be your wife, and I'll try my best. But you didn't set any other conditions. I accept the bet, and you should follow the rules. Deal?"
The atmosphere in the dining room was extremely tense and oppressive!
Matthew suddenly let out a cold laugh. "Are you trying to annoy me?"
Mary said nothing.
When she came back, she couldn't help but think, 'If I acted colder, would he get tired of me sooner? By then, even if I didn't mention divorce, he would.'
And now, it seemed her plan was halfway successful.
Suddenly, her chair was turned, making a sharp noise against the floor.
He grabbed the chair with one hand and leaned on the table with the other, looking down at her. "Changed your strategy, huh? Think this will make me ask for a divorce? Mary, forget it."
A cold, thin smile appeared on his lips. "You don't get to pick and choose when it comes to being Mrs. Montagu."
