Chapter 284 Why Doesn't He Care about Her Anymore

Laura's smile vanished, and tears filled her eyes. She stood up and said, "I won't bother you anymore."

She turned and walked away, her figure unsteady. The prosthetic leg under her skirt was noticeable.

Matthew glanced at her with a hint of mockery in his eyes.

Suddenly, Laura cried out, "My leg!"

She clutched her prosthetic joint, her face pale.

Michael, nearby, quickly supported her. "Ms. Sarah, what's wrong?"

Laura winced, "My leg hurts... a lot."

Matthew walked over. "I'll take you to the hospital."

Tears streamed down Laura's face. "Isn't that too much trouble?"

Matthew replied, "It's fine. The hospital's close. Let's get it checked."

Laura nodded, limping as Michael helped her outside. After a few steps, she stumbled and fell towards Matthew.

Michael caught her. "Ms. Sarah, I'm sorry."

He picked her up. Laura fell silent, then weakly said, "Put me down, I'm fine."

Michael insisted, "It's faster if I carry you. Your leg is more important."

Laura pressed her lips together and said nothing more.

Matthew glanced at Michael with a hint of approval.

At the hospital, the doctor examined Laura's leg. "There's nothing wrong."

Laura's face was pale. "Then why does it hurt so much?"

The doctor suggested, "It might be a nerve issue. Want to check neurology?"

Matthew said, "Check everything."

"Alright," the doctor replied and made arrangements.

Laura looked at Matthew. "Sorry to worry you. My leg always hurts, but I'm still not used to it."

She stared at her prosthetic, a hint of loneliness on her face, reminding Matthew that he would always owe her for the loss of her leg.

Matthew asked, "If it always hurts, haven't you had it thoroughly checked?"

Laura gave a bitter smile. "I've had it checked, but nothing's wrong. Maybe it's psychological. Every time it hurts, I dream of the car accident, the pain of the car running over my leg. I'll never forget it."

Matthew stood aside, indifferent. "Yeah, I remember being thrown out by the crash."

Laura's fingers curled. 'What's going on with Matthew?' she thought. Before, he showed concern when she mentioned her leg. Now, he was so calm, even talking about the crash details. 'Who wants to hear that!' she thought.

Matthew said, "You need a psychologist. Contact this person; it might help."

He sent Laura a number. She nodded, "Okay, I'll see them."

Matthew responded lightly and told Michael, "Take care of her. I need to step out."

"Yes," Michael replied.

Matthew left, and shortly after, a nurse called Michael away.

Laura noticed Matthew had left his phone. Her eyes flickered, and the phone rang. She saw Mary's name and sneered, reaching for it.

"What are you doing?" Matthew's cold voice came from the doorway.
