Chapter 151 Looking at Her Made Him Feel at Ease
When Shirley and Mary hopped on the subway to work, Shirley burst out laughing. "Did you see his face? That was hilarious!"
Mary stayed cool. "We're not getting a divorce, so this is how it's going to be."
Shirley sighed. "Your relationship is just a game of who can outlast the other in this torment."
Mary didn't respond, focusing on her phone instead.
When they got to the office, Michael called Mary to the CEO's office. She didn't want to go, but Michael was her boss, so she had to.
Mary took a deep breath, got up, and headed to the office. She knocked, heard voices, and walked in.
The office was dim, with a curtain in the middle projecting some faces. Matthew was in a meeting.
Mary hesitated, ready to leave, but Matthew motioned her over. She resisted, her lips tight.
Matthew paused the video conference with a remote.
"Come here," he said, his eyes unreadable as he watched Mary.
Mary stood at the door. "Mr. Montagu, what do you need?"
Matthew replied, "Mrs. Montagu, come here, and I'll tell you." The door was open, and everyone outside could hear.
Mary quickly shut the door. She glared at him. "Are you crazy? We're getting a divorce. Don't make this public. I don't want any trouble!"
Matthew raised an eyebrow. "It would've been easier if you just came over."
His words shook Mary's calm. She tried to stay composed. "What do you want?"
"Sit here," Matthew patted his leg.
Mary rolled her eyes, grabbed a chair, and sat next to him.
Matthew looked her over, not missing a detail. She wore a light green shirt and white pants, her long hair down. She looked fresh and capable, her light makeup adding a refined charm. Everything about her fascinated him.
He resumed the meeting with the remote.
Mary sat beside him, wary at first, but then realized he was seriously discussing business.
It was all in German, which was tough and her weak spot, so she took out her phone to take notes and learn.
She stopped worrying about Matthew. Matthew glanced at Mary, focused, her long lashes and soft profile captivating him. He felt a strange peace with her there.
The meeting lasted an hour, during which Mary had learned a lot.
She sighed and stood up. "Mr. Montagu, thanks for letting me sit in. I have work to do."
Matthew pressed a button, the curtain rose, and light filled the office.
Matthew smiled. "Shouldn't you pay for what you've learned?"
Mary glared at him, a jerk who had an agenda every time he made contact, and asked, "What do you want?"
Matthew looked at her, his Adam's apple bobbing, and finally said, "Make me a meal."
