Chapter 758 Guessed

Mary replied, "You don't have to."She picked up her fork and started eating.

After nearly a day and a half without food, Mary was starving and didn't care about Matthew's somewhat clingy gaze anymore.

Matthew sat by the hospital bed, staring at her intently.

So engrossed, he even reached out to touch her face.

"What are you doing?"

Mary immediately dodged his touch, looking at him warily.

Matthew's hand froze in mid-air. "Your hair fell. I was worried it might get in the way while you eat, so I wanted to help you put it back."

Mary tucked her hair behind her ear. "I can do it myself."

Matthew smiled faintly. "You're really something."

Mary was speechless, thinking to himself, 'What's wrong with him?'

Ignoring him, Mary focused on filling her stomach.

Then she asked, "How's the orphanage?"

Matthew didn't care, shrugging. "How would I know?"

Mary paused, then asked, "Have you found out who started the fire?"

Matthew looked at her seriously and said, "Are you asking for my help?"

Mary fell silent.

Asking for his help wouldn't come for free.

Matthew's intentions were clear as day.

Mary sighed and nodded. "Yes, please help me investigate. I suspect this was aimed at me."

Matthew's thin lips curved into a slight smile. "You're half right. They were also after Barbara."

"What?" Mary was shocked. "The people who wanted to take Barbara away started the fire?"

"That's right." Matthew nodded and continued, "The warehouse was smashed, and everything inside was turned upside down."

Mary lowered her eyes slightly, then suddenly looked up at him. "Matthew, you already know who did it, don't you?"

Matthew didn't answer immediately, just looked at her. "I haven't gotten the answer I want yet."

Mary clutched the blanket and asked, "Who is it?"

Who were her biological parents?

"Do you really want to know now? It might not be good for you," Matthew said, frowning.

Mary replied, "This is my business. I think I have the right to know. Whether to reunite or not is my decision."

"Fair enough." Matthew looked at her approvingly. "Your biological parents are the Cooper family from Diamond Ridge. The person who took your identity is Rebecca."

Upon hearing this, Mary felt a sudden sense of realization.

She had her suspicions.

Rebecca was the only one that Barbara knew and initially trusted unconditionally. There was no one else in the orphanage.

Barbara either wanted to destroy her or drive her away.

The only goal was to prevent her from being found by her biological parents.

If it were Rebecca, everything made sense.

Matthew watched her closely. Seeing that she didn't have much of an emotional reaction, he guessed what she was thinking and said, "Looks like you figured it out too."

Mary smiled slightly. "Barbara made it so obvious. I'm not an idiot. How could I not guess?"

Matthew asked, "So what are you going to do?"

Mary replied, "I haven't decided yet."

She needed time to think about whether to reunite with her parents. And she needed to find out if the fire was set by the Cooper family or Rebecca.

She had to figure this out.

Otherwise, how could she reunite with them?

"Alright, take your time. I'll always be by your side," Matthew replied solemnly.
