Chapter 493 Let's Have a Chat
Jessica spoke softly, almost apologetically, "Sorry, he's in the shower. I'll let him know you called when he's done."
Mary raised an eyebrow, "Where's he showering?"
Jessica was caught off guard. She thought she had been clear enough, so why was Mary still asking?
Still, she replied, "At the hotel."
Mary pressed on, "What's he doing at the hotel?"
Jessica went silent.
She glanced at her phone, thinking, 'I've made it so obvious. How does she not get it?'
Jessica held back her frustration and said, "Ms. Smith, let Matthew explain it to you later."
Mary shot back, "You can use his phone, so why can't you tell me what you two are doing at the hotel?"
Jessica was at a loss for words.
Shirley stood nearby, covering her mouth to stifle her laughter, tears nearly streaming down her face.
Mary glanced at her, then said to Jessica, "No need to hang up. Just give him the phone when he's out. I'm free now, so we can chat."
Jessica thought, 'Are you nuts? Who wants to chat with you?'
Her tone turned icy as she said, "It's not convenient," and hung up the phone.
Mary sneered.
"I never thought I'd see this side of you, Mary," Shirley said, surprised. "Is this your comeback moment?"
Mary looked at Shirley, whose face was flushed from laughing, and said calmly, "Well, I wonder why she won't chat with me."
Shirley doubled over with laughter, holding her stomach. She sat on the sofa to recover and then asked, "Who answered the phone? Laura?"
Mary said, "No."
Shirley widened her eyes in surprise, "Then who was it? Is Matthew's phone so casual that anyone can answer it?"
Mary looked at her seriously for a moment and said, "I'll remember what you said and ask him later."
Shirley fell silent.
Looking at Mary's face, which showed no change in emotion, Shirley couldn't tell what she was thinking.
"Mary."
"What?" Mary looked at her, confused.
Shirley touched her chin and said, "Why do I feel like your attitude towards Matthew has changed?"
Mary blinked, confused, "How has it changed?"
Shirley said, "You used to be very cold and annoyed with him, but now it seems like you don't care."
Mary lowered her eyes slightly, "I can't fight it. My emotions mean nothing to him. What can I do?"
Shirley caught the key point, "What do you mean by 'can't fight it'?"
Mary said, "Just what it sounds like."
Shirley's expression froze, "So, even after your divorce, he still refuses to let you go?"
Mary didn't say anything, sipping her water.
Shirley shook her head, "That's terrifying. It's so unlucky to be targeted by him."
Mary smiled and said, "Whatever."
What else could she do? She had tried everything, but Matthew's attitude was very firm; he just wouldn't let her go.
'Forget it. I'll live my life as best as I can,' she thought.
