Chapter 220 Repeating the Old Trick
Barbara had been trash-talking Mary while scarfing down the meal Mary paid for.
Mary was speechless about it.
Finally, Barbara finished eating, burped, and said, "I'm going to the restroom."
Mary put down her utensils, planning to confront Barbara when she got back.
But half an hour later, Barbara still hadn't returned. Mary frowned and called her, but no answer.
Mary's face turned cold.
Just then, the door burst open, and a menacing young man walked in.
He wore a sleazy leather jacket. When he saw Mary, his eyes lit up.
"Wow, you've gotten even prettier over the years!"
Mary stood up, wary.
Mary was shocked and thought, 'It's Peter.'
Peter, the son of the Lieutenant Governor of Lindenville, known for his bad reputation.
Five years ago, the night Mary got her college acceptance letter, Barbara took her out to celebrate and drugged her food, sending her to Peter's bed.
Mary broke a bottle, cut her thigh to stay awake, knocked Peter out with another bottle, and left Lindenville that night.
Now, five years later, she couldn't believe she ran into him again!
Mary wondered, 'No way this is a coincidence! How does Peter know I am in this private room? Why haven't Barbara come back?'
The answer was clear!
Mary's face grew colder. Barbara was trying to hand her over to Peter again!
Peter closed the door and rubbed his hands together. "Mary, you hit me back then, and I never got to pay you back. Didn't think you'd have the guts to come back. Having trouble out there?"
He walked towards her, eyes lecherous. "You should've been with me back then. I'd have made sure you lived better!"
Mary glanced at the table. No bottles. She moved to the other side, watching him. "Forgot the pain? Want me to hit you again?"
Peter laughed. "Go ahead, hit me. I wasn't ready back then. Let's see you break my head now!"
He lunged at Mary, but she dodged around the table, looking for a chance to escape.
Peter flipped the table, laughing. "Run, let's see how far you get!"
With the barrier gone, Mary's heart sank.
Meanwhile, local officials in the next private room were all smiles at the young, handsome Matthew sitting at the head of the table.
Suddenly, the sound of clattering utensils from the next room startled everyone.
"What's going on?"
"Rex, go check it out."
The Lieutenant Governor Rodolfo James instructed his assistant, Rex Day.
Rex nodded and quickly went to check.
Rodolfo smiled at Matthew. "Mr. Montagu, Lindenville has great potential. The spring water is pure, there are underground hot springs, and plenty of natural resources. The only downside is it's a bit far from the city. But if developed into a tourist area, it'll definitely pay off in the long run."
Rodolfo outlined the pros and cons, a consensus among the officials. After all, the CEO of the DK Group was here for an inspection, and they had to show their utmost sincerity.
