Chapter 163 Call me Robert
Mary paused, realizing there was still something about the house to address. She shook her head, "Not for now."
Robert nodded, looking like he had more to say.
"I'll leave now, goodbye," Mary said.
"Alright," Robert replied, then walked towards a group of men.
Mary sighed and walked the other way. She had to rely on the test results to clear her name. Until then, she had to wait.
A few minutes later, she heard a car engine behind her. Given recent events, Mary moved aside. The car slowed down beside her and honked.
Mary turned and saw Robert's face peeking out the window. He smiled faintly, "Get in; I'll give you a ride."
Mary was surprised; she thought he had left but he had gone to get his car.
"Mr. Williams, you really don't have to. It's not far," Mary politely declined.
Robert insisted, "I'm heading home anyway; it's on the way. Besides, we're friends, right?" With that, Robert shut down any further refusal.
After all, Robert had saved her life. If she kept refusing, it wouldn't look good. Mary got into the car and smiled, "In that case, thank you."
Robert started driving towards Maple Grove Manor, his movements casual, a faintly wicked smile on his face.
"I heard Matthew was poisoned?" Robert said.
Mary was surprised, "How did you know?"
"Lindwood City isn't that big. If something happens and it's not hidden, word travels," Robert explained, glancing at her. "Are you upset about this?"
Mary softly acknowledged.
Robert continued, "I'm curious how you two ended up together. No offense, but your social statuses are completely different."
Mary paused, smiling bitterly, "Fate, I guess."
Robert raised an eyebrow.
Mary added, "But it's all in the past now. People have to move on."
Robert agreed, "Yes, you're right."
They soon arrived at Maple Grove Manor. Robert parked, and Mary unfastened her seatbelt. "Thank you."
With a faint smile, Robert rested one hand on the steering wheel, "If possible, don't keep your distance from me. Call me Robert, like everyone else."
Mary hesitated, "That's not quite appropriate."
"But calling me Mr. Williams makes me feel old," Robert teased, raising an eyebrow.
Mary's mouth twitched slightly, and she finally relented, "Alright then, Robert."
Robert's features softened, "Alright. If you ever need help, I'll be there for you."
Warmth filled Mary's heart, "Thank you, Robert. Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Then Mary headed upstairs.
Robert watched her disappear, then rolled up the car window and made a call, "Something happened in the Montagu family. Find out."
