Chapter 660 What If It's Because of Love?
"Are you sure that's enough for you?" Matthew looked at her seriously. "You're not eating much."
Mary shot him a cold glance. "None of your business."
Matthew raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. Instead, he took her bowl and started eating from it.
Mary was momentarily stunned.
There was still some food left in her bowl, and he just started eating it.
The others saw this and didn't know what to say.
It seemed... okay?
They were married, after all.
Even though they were in the middle of a divorce, they had once been in love.
Shirley rolled her eyes dramatically. "That's gross."
Mary said, "I want to go back to my room."
Shirley stood up. "I'll help you."
Mary nodded and leaned on Shirley to stand up.
At that moment, Matthew put down his utensils, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and then stood up, scooping Mary into his arms.
"What are you doing?!"
Mary was startled and grabbed his collar, afraid he might drop her.
Matthew said, "You're too slow walking like this. I'll carry you back so you can rest properly."
Mary frowned. "But the doctor said I should try to walk on my own."
Matthew nodded, walking steadily towards the bedroom. "Then practice after I leave. I can't stand seeing you in pain."
Mary fell silent.
The atmosphere was quite awkward.
Shirley glared at Matthew's back, wishing she could burn a hole through him.
She had never seen someone so shameless!
Joey said, "I have to go. See you later."
Shirley quickly responded, "Take care, Mr. Cooper. Come by anytime."
Joey nodded. "Sure."
Robert looked displeased, his eyes fixed on Matthew's back.
Shirley hurried into the bedroom, worried Matthew might try something with Mary.
But Matthew simply placed Mary on the bed and then left.
Ignoring Shirley and Robert, he walked out as if he had only come to have dinner with Mary and carry her for a bit.
"Crazy!" Shirley muttered, turning to Mary.
Mary's face was pale, her brows furrowed tightly.
"Mary, what are you thinking about?" Shirley walked over and asked.
Mary closed her eyes briefly and said, "I can't figure it out."
"Figure what out?" Shirley was even more puzzled.
Mary said, "I can't figure out his motive. Is it love, or is it just stubbornness?"
Shirley frowned. "Why do you care? Once the divorce is finalized, you won't have anything to do with him."
Mary sighed softly. "But what if it's love?"
At that moment, Robert walked over, gazing at her. "What if it is?"
Shirley scoffed. "How could it be? How can you hurt someone you love? Matthew has put Mary through so much!"
Robert remained silent, just kept looking at Mary.
Mary's long eyelashes trembled slightly, and she gave a bitter smile. "I've never seen love like this. It's not what I want."
Yes, she didn't want this twisted, controlling kind of love.
The feeling of having no say, of everything being dictated by his whims, was suffocating.
Robert sat down beside her. "Then stay true to yourself, Mary. Don't waver. There's a better love waiting for you."
