Chapter 489 You Run, I Chase, You Can't Escape
Mary whipped her head around, but all she saw were a few buildings going up. Still, she couldn't shake the feeling someone was watching her.
That feeling was too real to ignore.
She wasn't imagining things.
The sun was blazing, but she felt a shiver run down her spine.
It was late autumn. She pulled her beige trench coat tighter and picked up her pace.
This place gave her the creeps. She needed to check things out and get out of there fast.
A few fancy cars pulled up at the construction site entrance. The foreman, Paul, grinning like a Cheshire cat, handed over a safety helmet.
"Mr. Montagu, it's risky here. Why'd you come yourself?"
Matthew, tall and imposing in a black coat, moved with a cold, regal air. His sharp features and striking face commanded attention.
Michael took the helmet and passed it to Matthew. As he put it on, he said, "What? Can't I come?"
Paul was speechless.
He thought, 'This Mr. Montagu looks young, but man, he's got a weird temper.'
Before Paul could say anything else, Matthew was already heading inside.
Michael, with a slight smile, said, "This area's a big deal for the DK Group. Mr. Montagu cares about it, so he came to check it out himself. Just follow along and wait for instructions."
Paul nodded, "Got it."
A whole entourage followed Matthew. The land was big enough for a commercial street.
But Matthew had plans for a tech park.
The sharp, angular buildings made that clear.
Mary looked around and then headed back the way she came.
Nothing needed changing for now; everything was as per her blueprints.
She didn't expect to bump into Matthew when she turned a corner.
He stood out in the crowd like a star, drawing everyone's eyes.
Tall and handsome, his black coat fit him perfectly. Even with a safety helmet, he looked anything but silly. His face was striking, his eyes intense.
Mary was puzzled. What was he doing here?
Matthew spotted her too. He handed the blueprints to Michael and walked straight toward her.
Mary walked over too, and as they passed, he grabbed her arm.
"See me and not even a hello?"
Mary paused, "You looked busy."
Matthew shot back, "It's not that I looked busy; you just didn't want to say hi."
Mary looked at him, "You figured it out and still said it? Isn't that awkward?"
Matthew shrugged, "Nope."
Mary smirked, "Need something?"
Matthew's shamelessness was nothing new.
Matthew said, "Nothing, just saw my ex-wife and thought I'd say hi. Unlike some people who act like they don't see me."
Mary ignored his jab, "If that's all, I'm leaving."
Matthew asked, "Where to? I'm heading back too."
Mary replied, "Not the same way."
Matthew still held her wrist, "I've got a car. Wherever you go, it's on my way."
Mary sighed, "Matthew, is this fun for you?"
Matthew didn't budge, "I think it's quite fun. You run, I chase. You can't get away."
