Chapter 790: Friends Gathering, Criticism Meeting

Mary's face went blank for a second. "You figured it out that fast?"

Shirley slung an arm around Mary's shoulder, her cheeks rosy from the booze under the flickering lights, her eyes glassy as she stared ahead.

"When I met the Adams family, they gave me a heads-up right away. They made me wait in the living room for two hours before they even saw me. And when they finally did, they didn't tell me why they wanted to meet. Instead, they showed me a bunch of photos of high-society women and asked me to help pick Herman's future wife. It was insane."

As she spoke, tears started streaming down Shirley's face. She wiped them away with her hand. "Mary, I thought I wouldn't fall for Herman. I thought I could just laugh off their challenges, but I couldn't. I felt so humiliated."

Her eyes reddened as she looked at Mary. "They didn't say anything directly or criticize me, but I still felt humiliated. Mary, am I screwed?"

Mary replied, "Yeah, you're screwed."

Shirley let out a wail and hugged her. "What should I do? Am I going to be stuck in this endless cycle of love and hate with Herman? That's just ridiculous."

Mary stared at her for a long moment before saying, "Let's go home. I'll tell you what to do once you sober up."

Shirley wrapped her arms around Mary's neck, looking up at her with a pitiful expression. "Can't you tell me now?"

Mary shook her head. "No, you're not clear-headed enough right now. Any decision you make now will probably be impulsive."

Shirley pouted. "Alright then, stay with me tonight."

"Okay."

Mary nodded and led her out.

As they stepped out of the karaoke bar, they saw a silver-gray Maybach parked by the curb. Herman, dressed in a camel coat, was standing by the car, talking on his phone. His eyes were fixed on the entrance. When he saw them, he said a few words to the person on the other end and hung up, walking straight towards them.

"Why do you always drink when you're together? She comes home and gives me a hard time when she's drunk. I guess I'll have to be more cautious from now on."

Herman joked, reaching out to take Shirley.

Shirley dodged his hand. "Tonight, you're not getting any love from me!"

Mary was speechless.

She said, "I'll take her home. We haven't seen each other in a while."

Herman raised an eyebrow. "A friend gathering or a roast session?"

Mary laughed. It did seem like that.

If they weren't roasting Herman, they were roasting Matthew.

No one was safe!

"Mary, let's go home."

Shirley clung to her, whining.

Mary agreed and led Shirley to her car.

She hadn't been drinking, so she could drive.

She settled Shirley into the passenger seat, then got in herself and started the car.

Herman watched them leave and pulled out his phone to call Matthew.

"What's up?" Matthew's tone was cold.

Herman said, "Let's drink until we drop tonight."

Matthew let out a cold laugh. "What, did your girlfriend dump you?"

"She wouldn't dare!" Herman replied, "She wouldn't dare even if she had eight hundred chances. Where are you?"

"Meet me at the usual spot."

Back at Maple Grove Manor, Shirley had sobered up a bit but remained silent.
