Chapter 774 Scolding Me Is a Necessary Procedure

"I don't want it."

Mary flat-out refused.

Matthew popped the candy into his mouth and grimaced. "This stuff's gross."

Mary was stunned.

If it tasted bad, why did you eat it?

With that distraction, she stopped staring at Robert on the stage.

As the emcee took over, Joan walked up in her wedding dress, her veil hiding her face.

When it was time for the groom to kiss the bride, Robert lifted the veil and went for it.

Whether they kissed or not was unclear.

But the crowd erupted in applause, showering them with congratulations and blessings.

The ceremony wrapped up, and it was time for the toasts.

Mary's phone buzzed nonstop, so she turned to Matthew and said, "I need to hit the restroom."

Matthew stared at her, "Want me to come with?"

Mary shot back, "Are you serious?"

Matthew replied, "I'm scared I'll get lost and someone will kidnap me."

Mary's skin crawled. She quickly shook off his hand and headed to the restroom.

When she walked in, she saw Shirley was already there.

"Spill it. What's going on?"

Shirley crossed her arms, her expression demanding an explanation.

Mary sighed softly and said, "Matthew tricked me. He said he wanted me to go somewhere with him. I didn't expect it to be Robert's wedding."

"That sneaky jerk!"

Shirley, understanding the situation, gave a fair assessment.

Mary said, "Now that I'm here, I can't just bail, right? I'm representing Mrs. Montagu. If I leave, who knows what the headlines will be tomorrow?"

Shirley nodded, "We have to stick it out. But later, he has to pay for deceiving you!"

Mary chuckled, "What kind of price can I make him pay?"

Shirley said, "Not being able to hold you or kiss you, isn't that enough? Let him suffer!"

Mary was speechless.

She didn't know what to say.

Shirley said, "Let's go back. I bet Robert feels awful seeing you, and Matthew must be feeling pretty smug."

The two of them chatted as they left the restroom.

Back at their seats, Matthew's gaze immediately fell on her face. "Mission accomplished?"

Mary looked at him, "How did you know I went to see Shirley?"

Matthew chuckled, "Do I even need to guess? Were you two badmouthing me again?"

Mary kept a straight face. "You got it."

Matthew said, "After all, when you two get together, badmouthing me is a must. If you don't, you won't feel right."

Mary was speechless.

He had a pretty clear understanding of himself.

She said, "Then you should reflect on what went wrong."

Matthew said, "It's her bias against me. I don't think I did anything wrong."

Mary couldn't be bothered to deal with him.

Just then, a group of people surrounded Robert and Joan as they walked over.

Everyone at the table raised their glasses, offering their congratulations.

Matthew looked at Robert with a half-smile, "Congrats, Mr. Williams. Wishing you a happy marriage and a lifetime of love."

Joan smiled sweetly, "Thank you, Matthew!"

Matthew turned to Mary, "You should say something too. After all, you two were friends."

Mary was speechless.

This jerk!
