Chapter 341 He's Just a Monster
Matthew caught her staring and shot her a look. "What’s got your attention?"
Mary’s lashes fluttered.
Laura noticed too and blurted out, "Mary, did you see that? You never should’ve saved him! I lost a leg for him, and now he treats me like this. You took him in and even married him. How’s he treating you? He doesn’t deserve your love at all!"
Mary’s brows knitted together, wondering, 'Is Laura nuts? Saying this in front of Matthew, isn’t she scared he’ll off her right here?'
Sure enough, Matthew’s face darkened, eyes flashing with murderous intent as he glared at Laura. Glancing at her prosthetic leg, he sneered, "One fake leg’s an eyesore. How about I make the other one match?"
Laura stared at him, stunned. "You... Matthew, are you insane? How can you treat me like this?"
A flicker of red flashed in Matthew’s eyes, but he held it back. "With both legs gone, I’ll make sure you live comfortably."
"No, no way!" Laura backed away, terrified, looking at Matthew like he was a monster.
He was a monster!
No gratitude, no repayment, treating his savior like dirt!
Matthew’s tone turned icy. "Do you even know why I locked you up?"
Laura’s face went even paler. "I... I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Matthew’s gaze was cold. "That night at the Montagu house, was everything you said true?"
Laura shivered!
She felt an overwhelming chill envelop her, as if one lie would make Matthew really cripple her other leg!
She’d already lost one leg to get what she wanted!
She couldn’t lose another!
How could she face him then?
Laura swallowed hard, tears welling up. "Matthew, it’s my fault, all my fault. I was just jealous of her. Why could she marry you and stay by your side, when two years ago, it was supposed to be me marrying you!"
She sobbed, tears streaming down. "But now, I feel like a homewrecker, even though it’s not like that!"
She covered her face, crying, looking all sad and pitiful.
Matthew just stared at her coldly.
Mary stood a bit away, watching him.
So, he brought her here to make Laura spill the truth?
Laura cried for a while, showing no sign of stopping, her body even swaying.
Matthew’s impatient voice cut through. "When you’re done crying, apologize to her."
Laura’s crying paused, and she looked at him. "Apologize for what?"
Matthew snapped, "You stirred up trouble and made me misunderstand her. Don’t you think you should apologize?"
Laura bit her lip! When did Matthew start changing! He wasn’t like this to her before!
Laura looked at Mary, pale-faced. "Ms. Smith, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have said those things. I was just bitter."
"Enough." Seeing her apologize, Matthew had no patience for her nonsense. He turned to Mary, seeing no change in her expression, his brows furrowed.
"Mary, she made me misunderstand you," He walked up to her and said in a low voice.
