Chapter 791 Run Away?

Mary glanced at Shirley and said, "Go take a shower and get some sleep. We'll sort everything out once you're rested."

"Alright."

Shirley nodded and headed straight to the guest room she'd used before.

Mary went back to the master bedroom, took a shower, and sat at her vanity to do her skincare routine. Her mind kept drifting back to Shirley's situation.

She wondered if Shirley would be open to the plan she had in mind.

Right now, there weren't many options.

Unless Herman could stand up to his family and be with Shirley wholeheartedly.

But would Herman really do that?

He wasn't like Matthew.

He'd been groomed from a young age, given a top-notch education. Everything he had was thanks to the Adams family. Asking him to go against them was like asking him to move mountains.

Mary pushed these thoughts aside, pulled back the covers, and went to bed.

She was woken up in the early hours by her phone buzzing. Frowning and squinting, she answered it, her voice thick with sleep and irritation.

"Who is it?"

"Mary, I miss you."

It was Matthew's deep, magnetic voice on the other end, though it sounded a bit hoarse.

Mary closed her eyes. "Are you nuts?"

With that, she hung up the phone.

What nonsense was he spouting in the middle of the night?

The rest of the night was dreamless.

Mary got up and made breakfast. She saw Shirley wandering down from the balcony like a ghost, still in her pajamas, with dark circles under her eyes.

"Didn't sleep at all, huh?" Mary asked, surprised.

Shirley nodded, walked over, and hugged her. The coolness of her body transferred over, and she spoke in a muffled voice, "I thought about it all night. I really like Herman, but it seems like he doesn't like me as much. He's more interested in me than he is in love with me. Maybe one day he'll meet someone more interesting, and he'll like her instead."

Mary patted her head and said, "So what are you thinking?"

Shirley shook her head, a look of confusion crossing her face. "I don't know."

Mary said, "I'm planning to leave Lindwood City in about three months to go to Diamond Ridge. Want to come with me?"

Shirley looked at her, puzzled. "What are you gonna do in Diamond Ridge?"

Mary replied, "To find my parents."

Shirley immediately nodded. "Of course, I'll go! Your parents are loaded, right? If they really like you, they might take me in too, and then I won't have to worry about anything for the rest of my life!"

Mary looked at her helplessly and said, "Going to Diamond Ridge might involve a tough battle. You can come with me, but it's just a stopover. You'll leave the country directly from Diamond Ridge airport. That way, Herman won't be able to do anything to you, and all those worries you have will be gone."

Shirley blinked. "Your plan is for me to run away?"

Mary looked at her. "What else? You wanna stick around and deal with the Adams family's endless harassment? Live in fear every day?"

"I don't want that. That's not the life I want," Shirley shook her head immediately.

Mary said, "So, you can choose to leave. You have three months, and maybe during this time, you'll find some clarity and be able to let go completely."

Shirley was silent for a while, then nodded. "Okay, I get it. I'm hungry."

Mary said, "I'll whip up some noodles. Want some?"

"Yes, yes, yes!"

Mary interviewed a few people today and felt pretty good about them. She noted down their details and sent the information to Maria to see what she thought.
