Chapter 457 That's Your Problem, Not Mine
The butler started recounting what went down in the garden earlier.
He painted a vivid picture of Victoria being so scared she burst into tears.
The butler frowned and shot a glance at Mary, his tone getting colder, "Mrs. Victoria Montagu is really fond of Mrs. Mary Montagu. I don't get why she'd harm her."
Mary frowned back. "I didn't do it. It wasn't me."
The butler pressed on, "But a servant saw you pushing the wheelchair, which freaked out Mrs. Victoria Montagu."
Mary looked at Matthew and calmly said, "Grandma wanted a wreath, so I went to pick flowers. When I heard her screaming, someone had already pushed her away."
Matthew gave the butler a cold stare and asked in a low voice, "Did you check the surveillance?"
The butler nodded. "We did, but that spot is a blind spot for the cameras, so nothing was caught."
Matthew's tone got even colder. "Since nothing was captured, how can you be sure she pushed my grandma? If that's the case, can I speculate that you set someone up to frame her?"
The butler got scared. "Mr. Montagu, I didn't!"
Matthew sneered, "Do you have proof you didn't tell anyone to do it?"
Cold sweat broke out on the butler's back. He looked apologetically at Mary. "Mrs. Mary Montagu, I'm sorry, but since we haven't figured this out yet, you can't come out."
Matthew questioned coldly, "Since it hasn't been figured out, why did you lock her up?"
The butler fell silent; he truly had no choice.
Locking up Mary was Richard's call; he was just following orders! Why was Matthew giving him a hard time?
Cold sweat appeared on the butler's face. "Mr. Matthew Montagu, if you do this, I'll have a hard time explaining it to Mr. Richard Montagu."
Matthew sneered, "That's your problem, not mine."
The butler fell silent again.
Matthew then took Mary's hand and said, "Let's go, change your clothes first."
Mary looked so disheveled; it turned out Richard had locked her up.
Richard had actually dealt with his wife without his knowledge. A chilling coldness appeared in Matthew's eyes.
The butler watched them leave and had no choice but to go find Richard and explain what had happened.
Richard cursed angrily, "That bastard!"
Linda suggested, "I'll go check on them."
Richard snapped, "It's best to keep Mary locked up. She can't come out and embarrass the Montagu Family anymore!"
"Okay," Linda responded and left the room.
She ran into Matthew and Mary coming upstairs.
Linda asked, "Mary, how are you?"
Matthew mocked, "Aunt Linda, you must know what happened. How dare you ask this?"
Linda sighed, "Matthew, Richard is in charge of the Montagu Family. What can I do to stop him?"
She made it very clear that she felt helpless as an elder.
Matthew's expression stayed cold.
Linda offered, "Take Mary back to the room first. I'll get some clothes for her to change into."
With that, she turned and walked towards the bedroom.
In Matthew's room.
Mary took a quick shower, feeling refreshed. When she came out of the bathroom, she saw Matthew standing on the balcony, overlooking the garden where guests were chatting and laughing, creating a harmonious scene.
Hearing Mary's footsteps, Matthew turned to look at her and asked, "What happened between you and Grandma in the garden?"
Mary pursed her lips and answered, "Someone pushed Grandma's wheelchair to frame me. A masked servant appeared in time and stopped the wheelchair."
