Chapter 72 The Dream was Over

However, the fabric on Matthew's body hung loosely in front of him, lightly fluttering as he moved, revealing the well-defined muscles underneath.

From Mary's perspective, she could clearly see his distinct abdominal muscles.

Her heart seemed to beat a little faster.

Matthew had already walked up to her, slightly leaning in. His handsome and sharp face carried a hint of a smile as he looked at her. "Didn't you see it?"

Mary blushed!

Then, as if she remembered something, the embarrassment and flickering on her face disappeared.

"What's wrong with me looking? We're not divorced yet. You are my husband. Not only do I want to look, but I also want to touch!" She retorted as she reached out and touched his abs.

Mary thought, 'It felt really good!'

Matthew paused for a moment. Mary's small hand on him was slightly cool but very soft. His muscles instinctively tensed a bit.

A smug smile flashed in Mary's eyes. "Alright, it's late. Let's go to sleep."

She tried to retract her hand, but Matthew grabbed her wrist and leaned in, pressing her down on the sofa.

Mary was stunned. "Hey, what are you doing?"

"You touched me," Matthew replied.

Mary blinked. "So what?"

Matthew gazed at her softly. "You touched me. Is that  all done?"

Or what?

Mary's eyes fully expressed her confusion.

Matthew inched closer, his body's weight gradually pressing down on hers. "Mary..."

He murmured her name, his breath spraying onto Mary's face.

The atmosphere became intimate and ambiguous.

Things were heading in an uncontrollable direction.

But just then, Matthew's phone rang.

The sharp sound instantly dispelled the ambiguous atmosphere.

Mary pushed him away. "It's yours."

Matthew stared at her for a while before getting up to answer.

"Laura." He responded in a soft voice.

Upon hearing his words, Mary bit her lip.

The name was like a bucket of cold water poured directly on her, making her suddenly realize.

What was she doing?

If it hadn't been for the call just now, the following development would have been uncontrollable.

It shouldn't have happened.

She shouldn't have continued to let herself sink like this.

Shortly after, Matthew hung up. His eyes showed a hint of complexity as he looked at Mary on the sofa.

"I have to go out for a bit."

Mary paused, looking at him. "Do you?"

"She's injured and needs me," Matthew replied.

At that moment, Mary's heart felt like it was being shattered, the pain almost rendering her speechless.

Originally, he belonged to Laura.

She forcibly joined in, making the three of them live a mess. She should step out of it.

But...

A strong sense of unwillingness suddenly surged in her heart.

Mary got up the courage to ask, "Matthew, what if I say I need you too?"

Her clear, watery eyes stared at him, brimming with suppressed emotions.

Matthew pursed his thin lips. "It's safe here. You'll be fine."

Mary forced a faint smile. What was she doing after all?

Hadn't she already known Matthew's answer?

Since the moment he regained his memory, the scales in his heart had already tilted towards Laura.

"Okay." She nodded, then closed her eyes, refusing to look at him anymore.

The days in Emerald Isle City felt like a dream, and now that she had awakened, she should be clear-headed.

As she heard his footsteps reach the door, she spoke emotionlessly, "Tomorrow morning, I hope you'll be at the courthouse. Matthew, if you don't show up, there's no need to proceed with this divorce."
