Chapter 224 It Piqued His Interest Even More

Matthew was losing it, and Mary didn't want to stick around!

She quickly hopped into a taxi and headed to the hotel.

At the Opulent Oasis Hotel, Matthew stood tall and still, his face turned slightly, radiating a chilling vibe under the dim lights.

He touched his face and suddenly let out a low laugh, as if he saw a different Mary.

This intrigued him even more.

Just then, his phone rang. He answered, "Hello?"

Laura's gentle voice came through, "Matthew, why didn't you tell me you were on a business trip?"

Matthew's tone was cold. "Why should I?"

Laura panicked. "Matthew, I didn't mean to pry. I'm just scared without you."

Matthew pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a drag. "Laura, I don't like anyone meddling in my life. You knew that two years ago, right?"

Laura's heart skipped a beat. "Matthew, did I do something wrong?"

Matthew's face remained expressionless. "I just realized your stunt to force me into marriage was pretty boring."

He ended the call .

Holding his cigarette, he walked out of the shadows. Michael, standing nearby, said, "Mr. Montagu, we found the person behind the car accident from two years ago."

"Bring them in," Matthew commanded, taking a deep drag before tossing the cigarette into a trash can and stepping into the elevator.

In Lindwood City, Laura stared at her phone, panicking.

She wanted to call back, but Matthew's words sent a chill down her spine.

She thought, 'What did he mean? Does he not want to marry me anymore? Could he know about those things? Impossible!'

She forced herself to calm down and dialed another number.

"Hello?"

She explained the situation and her suspicions.

After a while, the voice on the other end said, "If he's suspicious, we need to throw him off."

Laura asked, "What should I do?"

The other person said, "That guy's had a tough life. If you offer money, he'll help again."

Laura hesitated. "Is this safe? What if Matthew finds out?"

The other person laughed. "Matthew's already suspicious. You have to gamble. If you win, you'll be Mrs. Montagu. If not, I'll arrange for you to go abroad so he'll never find you.."

Laura felt relieved. "Okay, I get it."

She hung up and deleted the call record, her eyes showing no love for Matthew.

Mary returned to the hotel and tried calling Barbara.

No answer. Her face darkened.

Mary mused, 'Once or twice, does Barbara really think she could push me around?'

Mary dialed another number, then went to shower and sleep.
