Chapter 750 Sammy
Rebecca's face tightened, her eyes darting nervously to the door. "Who's there?" she called out.
It was silent at the door."Hello? Anyone there?"
She took a couple of cautious steps forward and tried again.
Still nothing.
What the hell was going on?
Where was this person?
Rebecca swung the door open, and in an instant, a figure barreled in, shoving her back and slamming the door shut.
Rebecca screamed, scrambling to the far side of the room, her face a mix of fear and suspicion as she eyed the intruder.
It was a man who was wearing a hat and a mask. He didn't move, just took off his hat and mask.
"Relax. I'm not here to hurt you. I told you, if you want to take down Mary, I can help."
Rebecca's eyes widened as she recognized the face. She pointed at him, "You look just like Matthew. What's your deal with him?"
The man was Sammy.
"My name is Sammy. No connection to Matthew," he replied flatly.
Rebecca stayed on guard. "Why help me? You got beef with Mary?"
"Something like that," Sammy replied, his patience thinning. "I know how to make sure she can't come back to the Cooper family and take what's yours. But if you keep stalling, I'm out. Remember, with Matthew's help, it's only a matter of time before Mary returns to the Coopers, and you'll lose everything."
Rebecca was wary, but his confidence made her think he might be telling the truth.
He had a point.
With Matthew backing Mary, it was only a matter of time before she was back in the Cooper family.
Especially since Hawk Cooper had been acting weird, staring at old photos of his ex-wife. The thought made Rebecca even more anxious.
"Alright!" Rebecca agreed quickly.
Meanwhile, Mary got back into the car and drove for a bit before the engine sputtered and died.
She frowned, puzzled. What now?
Matthew got out, checked under the hood, and said, "It's busted. We need a tow."
Mary sighed.
They were still in the city, and the orphanage was miles away.
Was she supposed to walk?
Matthew pulled out his phone. "I'll call for a ride."
Mary didn't argue.
Just then, a car horn blared.
Mary turned to see a sleek black Cullinan pulling up. The door opened, and Joey stepped out.
"Mary, what a coincidence. You're in Lindenville, too."
Mary was surprised. "Mr. Cooper, what brings you here?"
Joey walked over, his gaze soft, a slight smile on his lips. "I'm here to check out a potential investment."
"And you?" Joey glanced at Matthew but didn't greet him.
"Just handling some personal stuff," Mary replied.
Joey nodded, then noticed the car. "Car trouble?"
Mary nodded. "Yeah, it broke down."
Joey offered, "Need a lift? I can take you."
Mary quickly declined. "No, thanks. He's already called for a car. It should be here soon."
Joey hesitated, then said, "Can we talk privately for a moment?"
"Got something to say that I can't hear?" Matthew cut in before Mary could respond.
