Victoria said, "Why would anyone want to hurt you? You're just overthinking it."
Matthew chuckled and said, "Grandma, I woke up with no memory. How did I end up on the street alone? Where were the caregivers? Where did everyone go?"
Victoria went quiet.
Matthew continued, "Mary saved me and took me in. Without her, I wouldn't be here today."
Victoria glanced at Mary and said, "Whether it was intentional or not, we can't be sure. What if she already knew who you were?"
"I don't know."
Mary felt she should speak up.
She looked at Victoria and said, "Grandma, I don't know why you're so hostile towards me now. You used to like me a lot and even told him that if he ever mistreated me, you'd set him straight. I remember that."
She sighed and continued, "Of course, if you don't remember, it doesn't matter. I didn't know who he was until he regained his memory and showed up at my workplace."
Victoria stayed silent, her face showing a mix of emotions.
Matthew looked at Victoria and said softly, "Grandma, Mary did nothing wrong. She's my savior. I can't treat her badly."
The room grew tense.
Laura then said, "Mrs. Victoria Montagu, please, let's stop this. I'm okay. I was Matthew's fiancée two years ago, but now that he's in love with someone else, I'm willing to step aside. My leg is fine. I've gotten used to the prosthetic. Look, I can walk just fine."
She stood up and walked around to show her agility.
Seeing this, Victoria's eyes filled with tears. She looked at Matthew and said, "Laura is also your savior! She had her own legs! She didn't have to save you! When did you become so heartless?"
She pointed at Mary, "She saved you, and you can compensate her with money or whatever. But what about Laura? Can you give her back her leg?"
Victoria got agitated, clutching her chest and struggling to breathe.

Matthew called the doctor, who took Victoria away for examination and treatment.
Victoria grabbed his hand, refusing to leave, "Matthew, you're a man. You need to keep your promises! You promised Laura you'd marry her. Now you owe her so much. If you don't marry her, I'll never be at peace! What's the point of living then?"
