Chapter 24: We Are Still Married

"Thirty million dollars and the house, don't you want them anymore?"Matthew looked at Mary with a deep gaze, his almond-shaped eyes filled with an emotion she couldn't see through.

Mary clenched her fists, staring at Matthew, but suddenly she felt dishearted. She still wanted them. With the money and the house, she would no longer be trapped by a job. She would definitely leave this city and go somewhere far away where Matthew could never find her again. Oh… it was just her wishful thinking; he wouldn't look for her anyway.

With a cold expression, Mary found the first aid kit, walked over to Matthew, and sat down beside him. She opened the kit and began disinfecting his wounds.

"It hurts," Matthew said in a low voice. That deep, magnetic voice, slightly hoarse and with his unique gravelly tone, had a fatal impact on Mary. Her breathing became uneven, and instead of being gentle, her moves became rougher.

This time, Matthew kept quiet. He just quietly watched Mary. Her expression was cold, her features delicate and beautiful. Mary usually didn't wear makeup, which gave her a touch of innocence. Two completely different temperaments blended well on her.

"Done," said Mary.

Matthew's thoughts were interrupted by Mary's indifferent voice.

As she packed up the first aid kit, she said, "You better keep your promise. I want to see the check and the deed by tomorrow morning, and then I'll go with you to file for divorce."

She closed the first aid kit with a loud snap and turned to Matthew."If you try to back out, then no divorce. Let's drag it out, and I won't be at a loss."

After saying that, she picked up the first aid kit, put it away, and went straight back to the bedroom. Matthew stared at the neat bow on his arm, his eyes darkening.

Mary was wearing only a camisole nightgown after a shower. She planned to have a glass of water before going to bed.

She thought Matthew had left, but when the door was open, he was still sitting on the sofa, exactly in the same position. Matthew's eyes were fixed on his injured arm, lost in thought. Mary paused, then walked calmly towards the water dispenser. With her back to Matthew, she couldn't see his expression. Mary had half a glass of water. Just as she put the glass down, a strong arm encircled her waist. Mary was startled and immediately began to struggle. "Matthew, what are you doing? Let go of me!"

After six months of marriage, Mary knew how to provoke Matthew's nerves, and he knew her just as well. With just a few teases, Mary's face turned red. He turned her around, his dominant presence enveloping her, and kissed her lips.

Mary suddenly raised her hand and slapped him on the face."Matthew, you wretch!"

Her eyes turned red. "We're getting a divorce. What are you doing?"

Matthew's tongue pressed against his cheek; his almond-shaped eyes darkened as he stared at her. "But we're not divorced yet. Also, this is the second time you've hit me."

Mary trembled with anger. "What? Are you going to hit me back?"

Matthew suddenly grabbed her wrist. "I can't just take a hit for nothing."

As he spoke, Matthew didn't give her a chance to react. He kissed her forcefully, taking her breath away and holding her tightly in his arms.

Mary struggled, their teeth clashing, and the taste of blood spread in their mouths.

But Matthew didn't let her go. He gripped her waist and lifted her.
