Chapter 12: A Disrespectful Attitude
"Come downstairs."
With the cold and brief words, Matthew hung up before Mary could have said anything.
She looked at the black screen of her phone, gritting her teeth. Matthew was so infuriating! He wasn't as lovely as he was when he had amnesia.
Mary went downstairs, the dusk sunlight enveloping her, the warm orange light making her look as if her hair was glowing.
However, when she saw the person next to the limo, the smile on her lips disappeared. It wasn't Matthew.
"Where's Matthew?"She walked over and asked.
Michael, the driver, said, "Mr. Montagu has other matters to attend to. He sent me to take you to Montagu's Mansion."
For some reason, Mary's heart sank. What could be more important for Matthew than taking her to meet his parents?
Mary pursed her lips and got into the car.She took out her phone and called Matthew, but there was no answer! Mary clutched her phone and kept looking out of the window. Soon, the scenery became even more beautiful. Montagu's Mansion was located in the southern part of Lindwood City, a very desirable area surrounded by mountains and water.
The limo drove through the dark golden gate and stopped at the doorsteps of a villa. A maid came forward to open the door politely and courteously.
Mary got out, and there was a look of shock in her eyes. The Montagu family was incredibly wealthy! Mary had only heard of the Montagu family before, but she had never visited in person. Now, she realized that she and Matthew Montagu were from completely different worlds!
"Ms. Smith, please come in."The maidreminded her in an indifferent tone, with a look of disdain flashing in her eyes.
Mary frowned, "I am Matthew's wife. You should address me as Mrs. Montagu!"
The maid turned away. Mary could sense her contempt as anyone could.
She pursed her lips and entered. As she entered the foyer, there was a small sitting room where the unfamiliar environment made Mary feel a bit uneasy.
The maid said, "Please wait here for a moment. Mr. Montagu will be back soon."
With that, she left right away.Mary sat on the couch, placing her hands neatly on her knees, trying to calm herself.
'It's okay, she was just a maid. That doesn't represent the attitude of the entire Montagu family.' She thought.
Just then, a few more people walked in, among which was Linda. Seeing Mary, Linda smiled, "Mary, Why are you sitting here? Come on, Let's go inside."
Mary stood up, keeping herself cautious and respectful, "Hello."
Linda smiled and introduced her, "This is Matthew's father, Richard Montagu."
Mary looked at Richard next to Linda, who seemed so stern. She felt immense pressure from him at a single glance.
"Is Laura here?" Richard asked.
Linda replied, "Matthew has gone to pick her up."
"Hmm." Richard responded lightly and walked into the main living room.
Linda turned to Mary, "Come on, let's wait in the living room. Here is the place for the servants."
A trace of embarrassment flashed in Mary's eyes. Was that maid intentional or not?
They entered the main living room, where luxurious crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, exuding an understated yet wealthy atmosphere.
Linda said, "Be at home. Matthew will be back soon."
Mary noticed the girl's name Richard and Linda had mentioned. Was that the girl Matthew personally picked up? Was that her?
Half an hour later, there was a noise came up at the door, and two people walked in.
Matthew walked in first, and the girl Mary had seen in the private room before was behind him. She was Laura Griffin.
