Chapter 139 Shouldn't you Apologize for Your False Accusation?

Matthew's eyes glinted coldly as he glanced at Linda.

Linda felt an invisible weight pressing down on her shoulders, a pressure she couldn't explain.

Her eyes flickered, but she stayed silent.

Brenda's face twisted in anger. "What do you want?"

Was Matthew seriously expecting her to apologize to Mary? Had he lost his mind? Who did he think she was compared to Mary?

Matthew shot Brenda a frosty look before turning to Bishop. "Come here."

But Brenda clung to Bishop. "Matthew, what are you going to do with a child?"

Matthew's eyes narrowed. "I'm not you."

"You!" Brenda's face turned pale with rage. But she knew today's mess was her fault, so she couldn't push too hard.

She secretly hoped Matthew would force her to apologize to Mary, turning this into a family feud—a disaster!

Bishop cowered in Brenda's arms, too scared to move.

Matthew's eyes darkened. "Are you a man? A real man owns up to his mistakes."

Bishop broke free from Brenda and walked towards Matthew.

Brenda's breath caught, watching Matthew closely, afraid he might hurt Bishop.

Matthew crouched down, pointing to Mary. "She didn't hit you, but you said she did. Were you lying?"

Bishop nodded timidly.

Matthew's voice was firm. "You did something wrong. Shouldn't you apologize?"

Bishop's eyes filled with tears, but he held them back and turned to Mary. "I'm sorry."

Matthew patted his head. "Taking responsibility is what makes a man."

Upon hearing this, Bishop's chest puffed out a bit.

Matthew stood up, a cold aura around him, and turned to Brenda. "Civilized people deal with facts and don't make false accusations. My wife never admits to things she didn't do."

With that, he took Mary's hand and walked out.

Matthew was basically calling Brenda out for her lack of manners! Brenda was about to explode with anger! "Linda, how dare he? I'm an elder!"

Linda sighed. "Mrs. Hughes, I'm just a stepmother. What can I say?"

Brenda was stuck, fuming with displeasure.

Everyone around knew Matthew had been missing for a year and had just returned. They had yet to deal with him, but today, they saw he was not someone to mess with.

It was just a kid's mischief, but Matthew had blown it up. He was clearly not to be trifled with.

Matthew and Mary left the Montagu family's mansion. The estate's beautiful scenery unfolded before them, but Mary didn't notice. Her eyes were on their intertwined hands, her lips pursed.

After their last unpleasant encounter, she thought Matthew wouldn't care about her anymore. But his attitude today shocked her.

He was helping her. Did that mean he cared?

Mary caught herself, paused, and her expression turned cold.
