Chapter 536 She Really Deserves a Lesson

Mary didn't say anything; her initial thought was just as simple as that.

Shirley continued, "Not only do we need to take away everything she values, but we also need to make her experience the despair you felt. After all, there's no real empathy in this world. Once she feels the brink of death, she'll understand how precious life is."

Mary blinked, "What you're saying makes a lot of sense."

Shirley smiled confidently, "Sometimes I can be pretty smart."

Mary pondered for a moment and said, "But doing that is illegal."

Shirley sighed helplessly, "Did Laura consider whether it was illegal when she treated you that way?"

Mary fell completely silent.

Robert said, "Laura is annoying; she deserves a lesson."

Shirley's eyes immediately lit up as she looked at Robert, "Robert, you are so handsome! Do you have a girlfriend? Being your girlfriend would feel very safe!"

As she spoke, she gave Mary a meaningful look.

Mary took a sip of beer, pretending not to see.

Robert's delicate and handsome face held a faint smile as he gazed at Mary and he said, "I don't have a girlfriend."

Shirley exaggeratedly wore a dreamy expression.

Mary, afraid she might say something inappropriate, pulled her and said, "Come on, drink."

Shirley turned around, smiled at her, and raised her can to clink, "Mary, I'm on your side. Whatever choice you make, I'll support you."

Mary was very touched.

The two drank until they were completely out of it.

Robert indeed became the one to clean up. Mary and Shirley sat on the couch, holding each other and talking, the scene looking comical.

After tidying up the dining table and kitchen, Robert said, "You two should rest early. I'll be leaving now."

Shirley, holding Mary with one arm, raised the other high, "Goodbye, Robert!"

"Goodbye."

Robert glanced at Mary. Her face was flushed, her eyes dazed and unfocused, less cool and more endearing.

He deepened his gaze, forcing himself to look away, turning to leave.

The door closed.

Shirley, holding Mary's face, drunkenly said, "Mary, have you not considered Robert? He's great."

Mary pushed her, "Stop it. He's so good, but I'm just an ordinary person."

"So what if you're ordinary? Can't ordinary people find love?" Shirley said, looking unconvinced.

Mary half-closed her eyes, recalling everything that had happened recently.

"Maybe."

After a long time, she slowly said.

There was no sound for a while. She turned around and saw that Shirley had already fallen asleep.

Mary smiled, helped her up, and took her to the bedroom.

Struggling to get Shirley onto the bed, she wiped her face and covered her with a blanket before turning to leave the room.

She opened the fridge, took out some ice water, and drank a big gulp, finally quelling the heat and irritation in her heart.

Maybe it was because of the alcohol, but she felt very agitated.

Holding the water, she went to the balcony and looked at the beautiful view of the neighborhood, and the self-mockery in her eyes deepened.

Just then, her phone rang. She took it out and saw that it was a call from Matthew.

Mary's expression froze, and she hung up the call.
