Chapter 302 Switching Places
Jenny was bawling her eyes out, "You can't treat my family like this, Matthew. Just let us go, okay? I'll leave the country and never bug you again."
Matthew, ice-cold, shot back, "Did you do what I asked?"
Jenny's tone turned razor-sharp, "I will never apologize to that bitch!"
And with that, she slammed the phone down.
Matthew's face turned stormy.
The car was thick with silence.
Mary sat next to him, eavesdropping even though he had the phone glued to his ear.
She lowered her eyes, looking all calm and collected.
'Is this what having a family does to you? Jenny, with her parents' love, couldact recklessly? Is this what family feels like?' Mary lost in thought.
Suddenly, she felt a burning curiosity about her own parents. She needed to know what they were like.
She pulled out her phone and dialed David.
"Hello?" David picked up fast.
Mary asked, "Have you been to the police station?"
David hesitated, about to deny it.
But Mary cut him off, "If you haven't, go see Barbara and ask about my real parents. If she talks, great. If not, whatever."
David sounded surprised, "I thought you didn't care about that anymore."
Mary replied, "I've got a lot on my mind, so I need to know."
David said, "Alright, I'll ask."
Mary smiled a bit, "Thanks."
David asked, "Have you left?"
Mary said, "Yeah, I'm out of Lindenville."
David's voice got a bit rough, "When you coming back?"
"I don't know."
Mary's eyes clouded with confusion.
She thought, 'Will I come back? Probably not.'
David said, "After Lindenville gets developed, come back and see it. It might look completely different."
"Okay," Mary replied.
"Done talking?" Matthew's cold voice cut in.
Mary looked at him, confused, her eyes saying, 'Are you nuts?'
Matthew reached for her phone.
Mary hung up and shoved it in her pocket. "What are you doing?"
Matthew said, "You're leaving. Not much to talk about now, huh?"
Mary laughed, annoyed, "Oh, so now I can't talk to anyone?"
Matthew replied, "Yeah, I'm not happy."
"And that's my problem how?"
Mary stared at him, deadpan.
Matthew's possessiveness was off the charts.
He frowned, and the tension in the car spiked.
Mary just turned her head away, ignoring him.
The car ride to the airport was thick with tension.
Mary looked at her ticket; it was business class, and Matthew was right next to her.
But she didn't want to sit next to him, so she got up and went to economy class.
She swapped seats with a woman, who happily took her spot in business class.
When Matthew saw a stranger in Mary's seat, his face darkened. "Where's the person who was sitting here?"
The woman blushed, seeing such a handsome guy, and said, "She swapped seats with me."
Matthew's face got even darker!
He thought, 'Does she really hate sitting with me that much? She'd rather be in economy class than next to me?'
